Who will win Best R&B Performance?December 10, 2015 at 6:26 am #415208
This category is rather blah. Hiatus Kaiyote and Jeremih & J. Cole have no shot at winning. Andra Day could surprise. Tamar Braxton deserves to win for such a strong, powerful vocal. However, The Weeknd will win due to his successful year.
SHOULD WIN: Tamar Braxton, “If I Don’t Have You”
WILL WIN: The Weeknd, “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)”December 10, 2015 at 6:28 am #415209
The Weeknd will win this one easily. Don’t really hve much to say about this category.December 10, 2015 at 6:44 am #415210
The Weeknd can’t sing IMO, but they will give him this. Tamar should win this easily if it was *based on performance* and not politics.December 10, 2015 at 8:36 am #415211
I agree that this category really is blah. My personal choice of nominees would be
R&B Performance (Better Alternatives)
the Vanguard – Really Love
Braxton – If I Don’t Have You
Andra Day –
Just Right for Me
The Weeknd –
with Really Love taking the win. I also agree that The Weekend has no business winning an R&B Grammy for vocal abilities but most likely will due to “politics”December 10, 2015 at 6:11 pm #415212
Andra Day is the class of this category with the best vocal performance. I hope she wins somehow, and it’s nice to see her unexpected corresponding R&B Album nomination for “Cheers to the Fall.” Tamar’s vocal was strong on “If I Don’t Have You” and would be a deserving winner, but I liked “Love & War” better. “Breathing Underwater” is a bizarre song, so no to Hiatus Kaiyote. “Planes” is just awful. Both of these songs making it in over “Really Love” is insane. “Earned It” wins out for The Weeknd’s huge year, and that’s good enough, I guess. I’m kinda over this song and wish that “The Hills” had been submitted here and chosen instead. I’d still pick Andra Day to win, but at least it would have been more of a race.
WILL WIN: The Weeknd, “Earned It”
SHOULD WIN: Andra Day, “Rise Up”December 11, 2015 at 12:27 pm #415213

The Weeknd – “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)”December 12, 2015 at 3:39 pm #415215
Here for an Andra Day upset. By far the best vocals in this category.February 13, 2016 at 8:30 pm #415216
Could Andra Day pull a Snarkie Puppie/Lala Hathaway upset ?February 13, 2016 at 11:06 pm #415217
I’m going with an Andra Day upset.February 13, 2016 at 11:36 pm #415218
It’s hard to upset in category where there is only one crossover hit and the rest are songs people never heard of.
But Andra Day is probably the closest thing to a threat here. “Rise Up” is always in those commercials.
