Bye Elle King and Wolf Alice.  Foo Fighters underwhelmed in nominations.  Poor Florence + The Machine.  Always a filler nominee.  Alabama Shakes had a good year and will prevail here as a result.

SHOULD WIN: Foo Fighters, “Something From Nothing”
WILL WIN: Alabama Shakes, “Don’t Wanna Fight”

Alabama Shakes will win song but out of the nominees Florence has to have the best performance.  Out of the 5 nominations Florence received, this seems like the likeliest one.

Pretty amazing that 4/5 nominees in this category are fronted by women, and one of them is the frontrunner to outright win. A complete shift from normal years where it was lucky just to get one token female in the Rock Field. And go Wolf Alice! “Moaning Lisa Smile” is excellent BTW. But it’s all about “Don’t Wanna Fight” here.

This has a lot to do with the female invasion of the alternative genre.

More with the Academy’s decision to accept alternative music into the rock field. I am also very happy with this year’s nominees as all of them feature different sub-genres of rock music.

This is a category that is really hard to predict but Alabama Shakes are the definite front-runners.
