What do you think were the biggest AOTY grammy robberies? And not snubs, so no MBDTF and stuff like that.

    Here are some of mine

2000 – Kid A losing to Two against Nature by steely dan

1980 – The Wall losing to Christopher Cross

2005 – U2’s how to dismantle a atomic bomb beating Kanye’s Late Registration

1966 – A man and his music beating Revolver

There are too many to name.  Here are a few:

1994 – Tony Bennett winning over any of the other nominees
1996 – Celine Dion winning over The Fugees and Waiting To Exhale Soundtrack
2007 – Herbie Hancock winning over Amy Winehouse
2009 – Taylor Swift winning over Dave Matthews Band
2013 – Mumford & Sons winning over Frank Ocean

2007: Joni Letters wins over Back to Black

1986: Graceland wins over Control and So

1991: Unforgettable wins over Out of Time and Luck of the Draw

    Just 1984 in general.

In 1985, “Can’t Slow Down” beat both “Born in the U.S.A.” and “Purple Rain” to win Album of the Year. Wow, Grammys.

I thought the 1984 Grammys where Lionel won, the rest of the lineup was fine, his work however was the weakest. I think his best stuff was when he was in the Commodores.

The only time the Grammys got it completely right was when The Suburbs won in 2011. Every other year, there is something else that, from those nominees, that would have been better.

The fact that Amy Winehouse lost AOTY to Herbie Hancock still irks me. But at least Back to Black will go down as one of the greatest albums of all time. No one even remembers that snoozefest of a record Hancock released.

Fearless, really?! What other record of that sh!tty line-up should have won instead? Dave Matthews Band, I laugh my ass off!
Of the 5 albums nominated in 2010 Fearless was the only one remotely worthy of an AOTY nod.

Don’t forget Tina Turner’s “Private Dancer.”  Reviews for that album were ecstatic, saying Turner’s voice was so hot it melts vinyl.  Turner won Song of the Year and Record of the Year, so it was clearly her night.  I’m a little surprised she didn’t carry Album of the Year amid the lovefest and career comeback.  Of note, Turner also won the Female Rock and Pop vocal categories, and was probably close to winning or should have won Female R&B vocal for “Let’s Stay Together,” one of her best vocal performances, so the support and reach in different genres was definitely there.

The fact that Sheryl Crow and Kanye West never won is ridiculous.

Oh, and Natalie Cole beating Amy Grant in 1992. Amy’s album “Heart In Motion” holds up insanely well, despite it having that 1980s-early 1990s pop synthesized pop sound. The songwriting and melodies are incredible.

People say Taylor Swift because she’s Taylor Swift. Now Fearless spent the most weeks at #1 then any other album in the 00’s. Also she was just 18 when the album was released would you even consider Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus for AotY? I really dont see the big deal with Taylor winning, the album was great with songs like Forever&Always, White Horse and Hey Stephen whats not to like? There are worst winners then Taylor shes the biggest thing in music a future music Icon. We all know shes gonna be in the Country Music and Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. 8 years after her debut album and shes selling out stadiums and selling more then anyone else in music. Why do people keep putting her down? She has amazing songs but all anybody brings up are songs like YouBelongWithMe or WANEGBT. BUT nobody brings up songs like Safe&Sound, Mean or Ronan. Please tell me what makes her one of the Worst AotY winners ever? Cause I dont have a clue.

I do think that 1984 had the best set of nominees ever in the Album Of The Year category.  I do not think that Lionel Richie would have or should have won, but I can see how he won.  Can’t Slow Down had Hello, Penny Lover, Stuck On You, Running With The Night and the 1983 Record/Song of the year nominee All Night Long.  These hits were nothing to sneeze at.

I also thought that Tina Turner was going to walk away with Album of the Year and was probably second in the voting.  Prince & The Revolution had an impressive album with Purple Rain and Bruce Springsteen and Cyndi Lauper had great albums as well.

The win by Ritchie is seen as more ridiculous because of the legacy of the four other albums. At the time, his success and songs were wildly successful, but in hindsight most of the album doesn’t stand the test of time. I think the award should have gone to Prince or Springsteen, but Turner and Lauper would have also been worthy winners.

The album wasn’t that good. Yes, it sold well, and yes, Taylor has continued to have a great career. No one is saying she didn’t deserve to win because she’s now slipped into oblivion. They are saying that the album wasn’t good enough to win AOTY.
