The Billboard Hot 100 chart will be issued later this afternoon (or tomorrow due to the holiday), but Ed Sheeran could earn his first #1 hit with “Shape of You”. It looks to be a close race between Sheeran and Migos for the top spot this week. Sheeran previously went to #1 as a songwriter of Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself”, but has never had a #1 hit as an artist, peaking at #2 with “Thinking Out Loud”.

If the song hits #1, it will be the fourth #1 of the year in four weeks.

Thinking Out Loud never hit #1? That fact just proves how useless the Billboard Hot 100 is. Thinking Out Loud will actually be remembered, regardless of how over played it was. Can the same be said for Bad and Boujee? Doubt it.

Should have been “Castle on the Hill” instead, but I’m genuinely elated for Ed Sheeran all the same!

    Boooo!

Castle on the hill is miles better. What a shame!

Migos should return next week though.

Seems that streaming is too heavy weighted. Curious, do artists make ok money on streaming ?

They make around $0.006 per stream.

“Paris” is, to be frank, a train wreck of a song, and I really don’t mind The Chainsmokers (even though I think the records they’ve accumulated for “Closer” are unearned). Are we just giving them a free pass for life now? They’re capable of much better but “Paris” ain’t it.

It looks like Taylor and Zayn are making a push for #1. They just put out the video at midnight (the moment the week tracking starts) and now the single is on sale on ITunes. It’s like #7 or 8 on Pop Radio.

“Closer” is moving on up the all-time longest top-ten list.

    32 weeks – LeAnn Rimes — “How Do I Live” (1997–98)
31 weeks – Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars — “Uptown Funk” (2014–15)
30 weeks – Santana featuring Rob Thomas — “Smooth” (1999–2000)
29 weeks – LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock — “Party Rock Anthem” (2011–12)
28 weeks – Jewel — “Foolish Games” / “You Were Meant for Me” (1997–98)
27 weeks – The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey — “Closer” (2016–17)

the hell. it’s such a bland mediocre song. i’m glad it beat Bieber, but can it just drop out now?? i really cannot imagine Closer to be the longest running top 10 song of all time. or even second or third. someone desperately needs to pull the rug out from under these chainjokers. asap.
