They haven’t released the Top 10 Artists list but they have revealed 3 of the top 10 artists on the Hot 200.

    1) The Beatles

    2) The Rolling Stones

    8) Taylor Swift (The only artist the century who is in the top 30 she has 4 albums on the all time list and two in the top 20)

These rankings are just based on the performance on the charts. Minus sales and what not just who has been popular over the years.

Thriller should be #1. Adele should be #2.

The rankings are based on chart performance.

Surprised by the lack of West Side Story
soundtrack, which had 54 weeks at #1 and “Dark Side of the Moon”,
which has logged 917 weeks on the chart.  I know Adele’s album sold great
and ranked well in an era of poor sales overall, but it still seems odd that 21
could somehow have calculated as the best album ranking-wise on the Billboard
200 with only 4 years to chart, so I would be very interested in understanding
the logic here behind the rankings.

No it’s based on Chart Performance. 21 does have the record for most weeks in the top 10.
