I’m sorry but the CMA will never nominate Carrie Underwood for Entertainer of the Year, besides, she already got the award twice from the ACM. I like her voice but she is getting too overrated for me now. Eric Church is the most underrated artist in country music today. He deserves some more recognition.

I have heard that this song is considered for the category but I have never really heard the song. It depends what the CMA thinks right now.

What is country music in 2016? Because it sounds like 90’s R&B/Hip Hop with banjos to me.

Wow! How about putting Miranda in your latest prediction for EOTY (I don’t hear a thing about her that relates to music, except for VICE. Maybe divorce also falls into EOTY qualifications, IDK.)? For me its overrated, but I totally respect your opinion 🙂 and I do believe this will also be the CMA’s list of nomination. Well, maybe Miranda can also be a dark horse for “Male Vocalist of the Year” or “Vocal Group of the Year”. Who knows and I am not even trying to be funny.

    “Too overrated”?

I’m confused, she hasn’t won a CMA since 2008 or an ACM since 2010. The only way she EVER wins awards in country music is when the fans vote! If anyone right now is underrated, it’s Carrie Underwood, by her peers and the industry at least. She absolutely should be nominated for Entertainer of the Year after the huge year she’s had. This shouldn’t be about preference, this should be about overall ambassadorship to the genre; Carrie excels in that. She is the top touring country artist of the year, scored 3 more #1 singles, released a critically acclaimed gold album, and continues to represent country music well through her endorsement endeavors (Almay, NBC’s Sunday Night Football, etc.). She, in my opinion, is not only a must as a nominee, she really should win as well. So to see Miranda Lambert there instead of Carrie just genuinely upsets me as a fan of the genre who just wants to see the CMAs do a better job of choosing their nominees and winners. Carrie in all facets has been the leading female in country music, and she easily ranks among the top five of all artists. SHE should be recognized for that! She’s the only women who can “play with the big boys” in terms of statistics, so I cannot understand for the life of me why the CMAs can’t recognize her for it!? Well, I do know, it’s the politics behind the scenes. But still, in a year where Miranda Lambert literally released NO music, it grinds my gears to see her listed as a viable and likely Entertainer of the Year nominee. I LOVE Miranda Lambert, but she simply shouldn’t even be eligible as a nominee in that category.

Kyle, I agree 100%.  Even if Miranda had had a good year I just think this is Carrie’s year.  She is not overrated, she is underrated in my opinion in terms of the voters for the ACM and CMA’s.  The ACM snub really upset me this past spring.  I like Miranda a lot but she had a quiet year and quite frankly some of the later singles from Platinum weren’t her best work.  I like Vice but it was released after the consideration period.  It amazed me that Carrie did not win female vocalist at the ACM.  Even Miranda seemed shocked.  If Carrie doesn’t win female vocalist at the CMA’s she should pull a Toby Keith and stop attending (and hosting).  I am tired of voters holding the Idol win against her.  She won 11 years ago, you don’t stay on top without having the talent to do so.  She should win female vocalist and should be nominated in Entertainer of the Year.  She has one of the highest grossing tours, Sunday night football opening, she constantly plays the Opry, much more than what is expected of Opry members, and she constantly cheer leads fellow female country artists on Twitter such as Miranda, Jana Kramer, Kelsea Ballerini and Lauren Alaina.  Entertainer of the Year doesn’t just go to stage and radio play and album sales but also to somebody who represents what the community stands for and Carrie embodies all of those.

As for the OP I would obviously swap out Carrie for Miranda and Chesney for Church in Entertainer of the Year.

I’d swap out Chris Young for Blake Shelton.  I don’t want to see Aldean there, I have a hard time thinking of him as a “vocalist” but I have a suspicion the CMA’s will nominate him.

I agree with almost everything else though.  I think we could maybe see a surprise appearance of The Driver by Charles Kelly in a couple categories.

Ok, no Eric Church in Entertainer of the Year is definitely the BIGGEST surprise of the nominations.

Oh! So glad they nominated Kacey for Female Vocalist! Her singles flopped and the PM era was cut short in terms of radio singles and promo but she had such a great year headlining her great tour… really happy for her!

Blake Shelton getting snubbed and Miranda getting nominated even without any new release this year, is a personal highlight for me LOL

Really happy for Maren and the Brothers Osbourne too! (two of my favorites this past year!)

No Thomas Rhett aside from the noms for “Die a Happy Man” (too big of a song to get snubbed), is also great. A lot of people were predicting him in other categories but he’s terrible LOL

Now, quite upset with the lack of Cam in the nominations… Seeing someone like Cole Swindell nominated over her in Best New Artist it’s quite bizarre (not only because I feel she’s a better artist, but he’s anything but new ::) )

Tim McGraw’s nomination in Male Vocalist was a refreshing surprise just because it seems once you stop getting nominated there you don’t go back, especially for the males.  He constantly releases quality singles and it’s nice to see one finally catapult him back into this category.  He was the artist who got me into country back in his All I Want days and I couldn’t be happier for him.

To me it seemed like last year the CMA’s started to take a stand against “Bro-Country” and this year they are following the same track.  No Aldean!  That makes me happy.  Luke Bryan seems like a snub in the Male Vocalist but I can’t argue with any of the 5 who made it over him.

I too love the snub of Blake Shelton while Miranda really didn’t do anything new and got a nomination.  Of course that also speaks out about the lack of females not just this year but the past decade or so.  This year’s crop is one of the best of recent years although I would have swapped Cam for Kacey – nothing against Kacey just thought Cam had a better year.  It’s nice to be arguing for a female who was left out as opposed to wondering who could fill the slots after Miranda and Carrie.

It’s about dang time for Carrie’s EOTY nom.  It’s gonna be tough for her to win when Brooks is on the ballot but it’s basically a 2 way race between her and Brooks, I don’t see the CMA giving Bryan 3 in a row.  Of course this is probably the best chance a woman has had to win this award since Taylor won it in 2011.  It’s also nice to see Carrie get some overall love with 4 nods.  The Fighter nomination was a little bit surprising.

Sweet to see Chris and Morgane nominated together.

Maren Morris! Can I get a Hallelujah? Can I get an Amen? Now that’s a CMA debut.

Glad to see the Academy deservedly acknowledge Carrie Underwood.

Three female songwriters making the ballot is not new but always good to see in this traditionally male dominated category.

This will be a competitive year with few clear frontrunners.
