With the first performance of a new song (though not confirmed for the new album) it’s time for Coldplay talk again.
Here’s the new song, “Amazing Day”
Mixed feelings on this one. Coldplay has sort of been on cruise since Viva, even though I have enjoyed their previous two releases. This is a nice song, though there’s nothing new here from the band.
The band recently shot a music video in India as well, though based on photos I don’t think it would be for this song?
Expectations for the new album? A Head Full of Dreams has been in the works since Ghost Stories was released, possibly even earlier. It sounds like “Ghost Stories” was meant to be a one off type of thing and the band had been working on two albums at once. Low key promotion, not a lot of appearances for GS. This album is expected to come with a huge world tour (I would bet a lot of festivals next year) and a lot of promotion. It’s expected before the end of the year.September 29, 2015 at 1:30 pm #412701
They need to take several years off. And then go back to the sound that made them famous. NextNovember 5, 2015 at 8:21 pm #412702
New single is out in a few hours, “Adventure of a Lifetime.”
Album is expected 12/4.November 6, 2015 at 12:47 am #412703
New song is out. Hmmm it’s ok, don’t completely love it.November 6, 2015 at 2:17 am #412704
I really like it.
But then I am one of those people who could have Coldplay sing anything (as they did in their interview on Radio 1 this morning, in which they made texts from listeners into verses for songs), and still absolutely adore it!
Btw…. here is the link to Coldplay singing about really boring stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1jd4o68_XYNovember 6, 2015 at 5:46 am #412705
Coldplay’s my favorite band, and has been for about five years. That being said, I hate “Adventure of a Lifetime.”
I liked Amazing Day quite a bit. It was like a mixture of Ghost Stories and A Rush of Blood to the Head, and had a nice mixture of calmness, happiness, and appreciation in its lyrics and music. But AOAL is just bad. It’s way too poppy, messy, and overblown. I feel like after Viva la Vida Chris Martin just got obsessed with trying to stay relevant, but what he didn’t realize is that there is a want and a need for Coldplay’s older music, and what they’re making now is just like everything else (and not something they’re good at). I’m not saying they haven’t made any good songs since VLV, they’ve actually made quite a few. But Adventure of a Lifetime is NOT one of them.
That being said, I don’t think this album will be that bad. I hated Midnight, but it was kind of an anomaly compared to the rest of the songs on Ghost Stories, which has has grown on me quite a bit.November 6, 2015 at 10:58 am #412706
This is definitely Coldplay’s attempt at remaining relevant. “Adventures of a Lifetime” is certainly catchy, and has them incorprating a ‘new’ sound once again, albeit not that different from ‘Viva La Vida’ era, especially songs like Strawberry Swings.
I’m glad they’re promoting this more, Ghost Stories was laughably bad – it looks like A Head Full of Dreams has all the makings of it being their final album…
That is, until they reunite in a few years and make another album.November 6, 2015 at 11:24 am #412707
I actually kind of love the new song… It sounds funky and dance-y, reminds me a bit of ‘Random Access Memories’ era Daft Punk. It’s fun and just…happy sounding. I dig it.November 7, 2015 at 3:11 am #412708
What the hell is this? NOPE.November 7, 2015 at 6:03 am #412709
ugh I really wanted to like this. After hearing this and the so-so been-there-before “Amazing Day” I’m not so sure about this album. Post-Viva era the band hasn’t produced anything classic, but I’ve still defended MX and GS because I think they’re good albums as a whole. I don’t even know what to call this.
I would really like to be proven wrong, but so far this album seems really Maroon 5ishNovember 22, 2015 at 1:55 pm #412710
Okay, all of my doubts and concerns have been completely erased. Coldplay debuted two new songs last night on their TIDAL live stream concert, and… wow. “Up & Up” is not only their best song since their Viva La Vida days, but is also one of their greatest of all time (not to mention their longest – more than seven minutes!). For those who haven’t heard it, here’s a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6RJ0Yra6cI
You can really hear the U2 and Oasis influences on the song, and it contains their best guitar work ever, easily. I am speechless.
I loved “Amazing Day,” but as I said above, disliked “Adventure of a Lifetime.” Now, with Up & Up and the other new song, “A Head Full of Dreams,” I am 100% excited for this album, which I think will be one of their best.
(I guess I kinda glossed over it, but the song “A Head Full of Dreams” is phenomenal as well, and can be found on youtube).
