Now I know this one will be tough! You can tell by my pic that these three are my fav rappers (male) at the moment and arguably the three kings of this new generation of Rap. Who’s the better lyricist ? Who has the better catalogue ? Who’s made the most impact on hip hop culture ? My vote goes to Kendrick Lamar. He may not have the Mainstream Pop appeal like Drake but his debut album instantly became a classic. I would put him in the same category as Lauryn Hill and Kanye West. Debut albums that completely changed hip hop. J. Cole and Drake tie for 2nd IMO.November 22, 2014 at 4:26 pm #404327
I’m really glad someone started this, these three truly are the new kings and my personal favorites too! I’d have to go with Kendrick just because of great his album was, but all three have made significant impacts. I just love how, compared to so many other artists in the rap industry, lyrically different they are. It’s not just about sex, drugs, and money in their music and it’s so refreshing to hear!November 22, 2014 at 4:30 pm #404328
Kendrick, but J. Cole is terrific too. Drake has also been coming up.
1. Kendrick Lamar
2. J. Cole
The next albums from Kendrick and Cole could change everything. We’ll know who’s on top by the end of the year.November 22, 2014 at 4:52 pm #404329
Drake is good. Take care and Nothing was the same we’re good albums. But not masterpieces. Only J Cole album I’ve listened to was Born Sinner and it was alright. But Good Kidd MADD city was a masterpiece. So i’ll go with Kendrick.November 22, 2014 at 7:47 pm #404330
Based solely on popularity and album sales; Drake wins.December 6, 2014 at 8:08 am #404331
Seeing as Kendrick Lamar is the better rapper, and seeing that he is changing the game more than anyone else on this thread, then him. Both of his albums are excellent, with Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City being this rap opera that hadn’t really been done before. Drake is amazing, and has one of the better discographies of any mainstream artist, so I can understand why he would go further than anyone else. J. Cole is… fine.
Team Kendrick.December 6, 2014 at 11:13 am #404332
K. Dot is the better lyricist, rapper, and artist. He’s given us one of the best albums of the decade with GKMC and his success hasn’t compromised his artistic integrity (see: “i”). Drake has always been very good at what he does but his best album (Take Care) can barely compete with Kendrick’s mixtapes imo.
J. Cole has been a disappintment. His mixtapes were sooo promising but his studio albums have been boring and mediocre.
