You could not be bothered to capitalize the title?

Mmmhh, you be in bitchy mode… I usually don’t like to capitalize titles. It’s a thing, half-baked subversiveness.

I’ll probably change this, but as it stands…

    10. “It’s Time” Imagine Dragons – Night Visions
-The standout track from their debut album. This is the epitome of rousing, anthemic proclamations that puts any number of gaudy pop numbers to shame. A definition of a young person sticking to their guns while facing the oncoming changes of adulthood that is emotionally enveloping and hard not to resist.
    9. “Something in the Way You Are” Kimbra – Vows (U.S. version)
-Vows wasn’t a very strong album. It doesn’t help that this comes so early, but either way, it is the most engaging, best executed songs on the album and of the year.
    8. “Talking with the Wolves” Glen Hansard – Rhythm and Repose
-Such a haunting, ethereal song that exemplifies Hansard’s ability to craft intimate, soul-piercing tracks so effortlessly and effectively.
    7. “Young Man in America” Anaïs Mitchell – Young Man in America
-The vicious, biting, but ultimately inescapable title track from Anaïs Mitchell, whose album I’ll discuss later. It sets the stage for the record, but works on its own as a youthful and rebellious declaration of maturation.
    6. “Mercy” G.O.O.D. Music – Cruel Summer
-At first, I didn’t get what was so great about this song. It seemed uninspired and generic. Diving deeper and deeper, what a badass, progressive and addictive track. It’s tactful, catchy and clever: a perfect mix of accessibilitiy and quality.
    5. “Thinkin’ ‘Bout You” Frank Ocean – Channel Orange
-The opening track of Ocean’s debut is so perfect for the album. As a piece of the puzzle, it sets up Channel Orange flawlessly. As a stand-alone track, it’s a breezy, contemplative, bittersweet testament to first loves that is does so much with so littlle. Ocean’s vocals and an unconventional arrangement let us in on Ocean’s secrets, his feelings and make it personal to us. Talk about incredible.
    4. “Eyes Wide Open” Gotye – Making Mirrors
-Easily my favorite track by Gotye and the best off of Making Mirrors. A thundering and heartbreaking track that feels somehow feels hopeless and ambitious at the same time. It’s an infectious tune and really speaks to just how talented Gotye is as a musician. Hopefully he’ll have songs that are more of this quality as he goes on in his career.
    3. “Take a Walk”  Passion Pit – Gossamer
-The perfect indie-pop song in many ways. It’s smartly written, with a clever story of the American dream. It is endearing, danceable and catchy as chlamydia. There’s enough feeling and depth that is so rich and thick that it’s nearly impossible to resist what this group has done with this song.
    2. “Our Song” The xx – Coexist
-Regardless of whether or not Coexist compares to the band’s debut, this song is in a league all its own. All of 2012, there was no love song as perfect as “Our Song.” “And there’s no one else/Who knows me/Like you do/What I’ve done/You’ve done too/The walls I/Hide behind/You walk through/You just walk through.” The simplest and most affecting verse written all year.
    1. “Pyramids” Frank Ocean – Channel Orange
-How could this song be denied the top spot? This ten-minute epic goes all over the place and hits all of the rights spots. It’s danceable and infectious one half, smoothly transitioning into a very moving second half. From every appropriately placed hook and pop trope, to the John Mayer outro, this song has earned its place as the best track of 2012.
