Another way to approach this is to list anyone who you think might make the top 20, since this is how nominees are selected anyways. As I said, I won’t be censoring anyone, so think of anyone who we may be leaving out and it’ll go up on the list.

^^^ After looking at your lists, I think that Brantley Gilbert has a shot at the Best New Artist award as well after having back to back #1 songs with “Country Must Be Country Wide” and “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do”. (smiles)

God bless you and him always!!!

I can’t imagine what pop album could be enough popular or acclaimed to enter AOTY. The only ones that I can think of are 1D’s ‘Up All Night’, Maroon 5’s ‘Overexposed’, Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Stronger’ and Justin Bieber’s ‘Believe’, but none of them resembles anything about the past blockbuster nominees (Gaga, Teenage Dream, Loud) which yielded at least 4 top 10 hits each and sold very well; so my theory is that we’re seeing NO pop album in the GF. However, it’s easy for me to see 3 or 4 rock/alternative/folk albums getting enough acclaim to compete for some slots this year.

As for ROTY/SOTY it ain’t clear yet if WFL will be eligible or not, but if it is, then it’s in. I think that Fun. will end up submitting SN as the track is starting to climb the charts (+ is the superior track) and will have better momentum than WAY; finally Frank Ocean could be rewarded with a nom in every category of the GF but AOTY, I see a situation a la Bon Iver last year.

KaRol thanks a ton for starting a long list! I’ll be updating more over the next few days. It’ll be interesting to see how artists submit songs when they have two or more to pick from. I’ll definitely be adding “Some Nights” to record and song during my next update.

Is ‘Take Care’ by Drake eligible for Song of the Year? I read somewhere a few months ago when the video debuted that the track ain’t completely original, and according to wikipedia:

The song samples Jamie xx‘s remix of Gil Scott-Heron‘s version of “I’ll Take Care of You“.

Do Grammy rules allow this? I though ‘Empire State of Mind’ had been disqualified a couple of years ago in this category for sampling another track…  My guess is that the song would still be able to compete in ROTY.

Just for fun, since we don’t have official submissions lists yet and the elegibility period is almost over, I think it’d be interesting if we could figure out what would be the best submissions (in order to get the most nominations) a general field contender could make, for instance, if I were Fun. or its label I would go with:

    AOTY – ‘Some Nights’
    ROTY – ‘Some Nights’
    SOTY – ‘Some Nights’
    BNA
Best Pop Album – ‘Some Nights’
Best Pop Group Perf: ‘We Are Young (ft. Janelle Monáe)’

    ROTY – ‘One More Night’
    SOTY – ‘One More Night’
    Best Pop Album – ‘Overexposed’
Best Pop Group Perf: ‘One More Night’

    Gotye

    AOTY – ‘Making Mirrors’
ROTY – ‘Somebody that I Used to Know (ft. Kimbra)’
SOTY – ‘Somebody that I Used to Know(ft. Kimbra’
    BNA
Best Pop Solo Perf: ‘Eyes Wide Open’
Best Pop Group Perf: ‘Somebody that I Used to Know (ft. Kimbra)’
Best Rock Perf: ‘I Feel Better’
Best Rock Song: ‘I Feel Better’
Best Alternative Album – ‘Making Mirrors’
Best Short Form Music Video: ‘Somebody that I Used to Know (ft. Kimbra)’

after looking at the RotY nominees in the last 5 years, i think that the following songs have a chance this year…
Somebody That I Used To Know
    We Are Young
We Found Love (or Stronger or Call Me Maybe)
    Take Care
Little Talks (or Lonely Boy or Too Close or Shake It Out)

TBH I would love to see “We Found Love” nominated, if eligible. I expect to see “Where Have You Been” on the ballot though.
