Would anyone be interested in doing a poll / game to see what GoldDerby users collectively vote as the best Top 40 hit of the Grammy eligibility year?  Given there’s one week left in the Grammy year, we currently have 112 different songs that have charted on the Billboard Top 40 that are eligible for this year’s Grammy awards.  These are listed within Daniel’s Hot 100 chart at the link below for your reference and perusal:

    http://www.goldderby.com/forum/topics/view/12458

This may crash and burn, but if anyone is interested, I thought it’d be interesting to pool together everyone’s list of the best songs to chart in the US this year and then make a top ten list of our collective favorite Top 40 hits elgible for the Grammys this year.

If you’re wanting to participate, just read through the list Daniel posted and for any song that charted in the Top 40 this year, PM me a list of your TEN favorite songs eligible for this year’s Grammys unranked.  I’d ideally like to do this for all songs eligible, but that may provide way too broad of a listing, so it’s a lot easier to do so with Top 40 hits.  After I tally up votes for everyone’s top tens, we’ll announce the Top 20-25 vote-getters (based on number of ties) and then start a round for everyone to rank them, resulting in our GoldDerby Top Ten Top 40 hits of the year.

If you want to participate, just PM me a list of your top ten songs eligible anytime between now and October 1, 2015.  If you send a list and want to edit for any new songs that chart between now and then (i.e. Selena Gomez’ “Same Old Love” or anything else new), just edit your list and PM me back with your change.  I’ll tally between now and 10/1 and update you all on total ballots to see if people are interested in proceeding with the results.

Just PM me with your list if you want to join – may just be an interesting diversion over the next few weeks while waiting on Grammy eligibility lists.

GREAT idea. I hope enough people get involved. I also hope they don’t just go for the obvious choices, and actually look at the list and go for their genuine favourites!

Thanks!  I’ve received a few ballots already, so people can keep sending them in as they have time to read through the list and make a top ten.  I am really hoping that our top 20-25 is a very diverse list so that the second round of voting can result in some true upsets / dark horse contenders making the top ten list.

    Also – my personal FYCs:
Carly Rae Jepsen – I Really Like You
    Drake – Back to Back

I’ll send in my list after the final eligible chart is revealed. That’s mainly for the sake of Hailee Steinfeld making my list if she cracks the top 40.

Good deal – thanks!  Also FYI – she cracked the Top 40 last week, and “Love Myself” currently sits at #36.

It has? Haha, oh well my list may well be set in stone then. Still, I’ll keep an eye out for the last chart and give you my picks then!

Started to get quite a few votes coming in over the weekend so our collective top 20 list is looking pretty diverse thus far – Keep them coming over the next week anytime to get your ballots in and see what the finalists list looks like.

Quite a few people mentioned or messaged me that they wanted to participate.  All eligible Billboard charts have been released now that the eligibility period is ending today!  In addition to the initial charts, these songs have made the Top 40 over the past two weeks:

    Hailee Steinfeld – Love Myself
Luke Bryan – Strip it Down
Ellie Goulding – On My Mind
    Elle King- Ex’s and Oh’s
Future featuring Drake – Where Ya At
Calvin Harris & Disciples – How Deep Is Your Love
Keith Urban – John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16

If you’d like to vote for GoldDerby’s Favorite Top 40 Hits of the year, review the list in the initial post and PM me your Top Ten Unranked favorite hits of the year.  I’m tallying up and will then release a list of the top 20(ish) vote-getters as finalists so we can finalize a top ten countdown.  If you’d like to participate, PM me your top ten vote by Friday, October 2 at 11:59pm.

Quite a few votes are already in, and we currently have a very diverse finalists list (with the #1 vote-getter being a song that wasn’t a top ten hit), so look forward to seeing the final list.

The votes have been tallied for the first round and the finalists are listed below for GoldDerby’s top ten list of Favorite Top 40 Hits of the Year (Grammy eligibility period).  Fourteen different songs made the finalist list due to ties, and the group collectively came up with a very solid list mixed with huge #1 hits and smaller songs that barely cracked the Billboard Top 40 charts.  The Weeknd leads with an astounding four songs on the finalist list, and Taylor Swift has two that make the cut.

Blank Space” performed by Taylor Swift
    Budapest” performed by George Ezra
Can’t Feel My Face” performed by The Weeknd
Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)” performed by The Weeknd
    Elastic Heart” performed by Sia
    Ghost” performed by Ella Henderson
Lean On” performed by Major Lazer and DJ Snake featuring MO
Love Me Harder” performed by Ariana Grande and The Weeknd
Love Me Like You Do” performed by Ellie Goulding
    Style” performed by Taylor Swift
Talking Body” performed by Tove Lo
The Hills” performed by The Weeknd
Thinking Out Loud” performed by Ed Sheeran
Uptown Funk!” performed by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars

We’ll now move into the second round of voting to finalize the Top Ten list. In this round, please vote for five of the songs above, ranked.  Your #1 choice will receive 5 points, #2 choice will receive 4 points, and so on.  We’ll tally votes this round and then countdown the group’s top ten list of favorite Top 40 hits of the year.  Anyone can vote in this round (you don’t have to have voted in round one).  Send me all votes by Friday, October 16.

    Thanks to all for particiating!
