I guess this confirms they all will be nominated for Grammys, in case anyone had a doubt.October 24, 2014 at 7:45 am #403605
I bet Pharrell is the one, out of the 4 performers announced, with more chances of appearing in the AOTY category since he was huge the last 18 months and I don’t see a live version of HAPPY getting in the GF. Maroon 5 and Ariana Grande were already safe bets to show up in the Pop Field, but their chances for a Pop Album nomination just increased notably… and I’m also thinking PROBLEM could show up in ROTY.October 24, 2014 at 7:47 am #403606
I like this idea… its new for the grammy’s and i feel like we all don’t have to wait until that night to find out all the other surprises…. I’m not sure this confirms all of them will be receiving a nomination…. they don’t know yet what is on the final ballot because they are still voting and I have this strange feeling that Ariana Grande will be left off… only possibly getting into pop duo/group for “problem” but that’s just my theory.October 24, 2014 at 7:58 am #403607
not sure about a christmas special but like the lineup (so far….unless thats the whole linup?)October 24, 2014 at 8:42 am #403608
I wonder if its just AotY or major categories that will be announced on X-mas? I dont like this we have to wait 3 more weeks for the announcement. I liked the nominations concert.October 24, 2014 at 8:46 am #403609
Ugh! For once, they couldn’t have surprised us with a non-mainstream performer? Of course, that’s asking for too much.October 24, 2014 at 8:55 am #403610

They aren’t announcing the nominees on christmas. All nominees will be revealed on December 5th as usual except this time… in the morning of Dec. 5th, they will unveil the nominees for all categories excluding album of the year. Then the x-mas grammy special will come on that night at 9pm and then the last category Album of the year will be revealed…. See you don’t have to wait that long to find out… Hope this clarifies and helps!October 24, 2014 at 8:57 am #403611
Releasing all the nominees that morning except for Album of the Year, which they’ll reveal later that night, just seems wierd to me. I don’t understand it. But then again, I don’t understand much about what the kids do these days. I just like complaining about things. Ew, something smells like mustard. There sure are a lot of ugly people around here…Oh God, look at that one! The president is a Demy-crat. I can’t unbuckle my seatbelt.October 24, 2014 at 9:18 am #403612
I could understand if they kept the entire top 4 (ROTY, AOTY, SOTY, BNA) secret until the show but disclosing everything else but AOTY makes no sense to me. It’s not like people can’t get a sense of what is likely to be there by seeing all the other noms. And it’s also not like AOTY by itself is that big that it warrants that exclusivity. Although it’s the Grammy equivalent, it lacks the prestige of Best Picture at the Oscars.October 24, 2014 at 9:58 am #403613
If Ariana wins a Grammy before Katy Perry… Grammy will be overOctober 24, 2014 at 10:11 am #403614
I wonder if being a performer during the special means that they’ll be an AOTY nominee? If that’s the case, then YIKES. I highly doubt the AOTY lineup would look like this
V, Maroon 5
My Everything, Ariana Grande
G I R L, Pharell
Sundown Heaven Town, Tim McGraw
….1 country, and 3 pop, and 1 Pop/R&B albums. UGH.
However, given this announcement, I am now increasing my nominations for Maroon 5 and Ariana Grande in the pop field.October 24, 2014 at 10:54 am #403615
Maybe I’m just being super pessimistic about this, but if they’re filming the special Nov 18th where they announce the ‘secret’ AOTY lineup, that leaves over 2 weeks for that information to be leaked. Since tickets are going on sale to the general public, I really don’t see how that information won’t get out, unless there’s something I’m missing. I am kind of sad there’s no Grammy nominations concert, I really started to like that.October 24, 2014 at 11:03 am #403616
They can reveal the nominees live that night on the screen . It can still be pre taped without anyone knowing who the AOTY nominees are.October 24, 2014 at 11:12 am #403617
It would have been more “suspenseful” if they had saved the entire General Field nominees (ROTY, AOTY, SOTY, & BNA) for this concert special. I don’t know if AOTY is prestigious enough anymore to save for its own separate announcement on the telecast, which I’m sure will be dragged out to the last five minutes of the program. I’m tired of these concert specials, so at least we’ll get all the nominees in the morning like the good ole’ days (except for AOTY). Not doing the special live is nteresting. The whole leak element entered my mind too, though the Grammys are usually good about keeping things under lock and key when it comes to announcements and news. I said awhile ago that Maroon 5 are inching their way to AOTY with each passing album (I brought them up in the “Who’s This Year’s Sara Bareilles?” thread), and while this doesn’t automatically mean that they’re going to be nominated, I’m getting closer to slotting them into my final five, and their nod won’t seem all that shocking anymore there.
