I understand that there is a lot of intolerable tripe on the radio nowadays, but to flat out say that most, if not all modern music is bad and unlistenable is I think is not fair. Look at examples like Ed Sheeran, Adele or Sam Smith.
I don’t know, it just makes me kinda mad when people say that. What do you think?

I hate it when people say “I’m sorry we are out of ice cream”.
But I digress
Yes, there is some utter generic derivative junk on the radio. But then, there are some artistis that are really different and exciting and doing something. You live for the good and ignore the bad. As for those who say it, just politely direct them towards the good folks 🙂November 3, 2015 at 9:50 pm #413617
Music is one of the biggest domains of “Kids these days” complaints. Every generation gripes about the next generation’s noise. The fact is there is ALWAYS crap, but there is ALWAYS great music too. The passage of time naturally weeds out the crap, which is usually forgotten, which gives the illusion that what happened before was all great and what’s happening now is junk. I doubt it’s ever been true.November 4, 2015 at 11:49 am #413618
I’ve found myself becoming less and less tolerant of so-called ‘bad music’ as I’ve grown older (and I’m still considered a ‘millenial’!). it’s kind of funny, actually.
But I really can’t stand the type of crap on the radio that is anything like Fetty Wap. That’s just garbage.
There really is a lot of GREAT modern music…it’s just not on the radio (Leon Bridges, Jamie xx, Disclosure, Carly Rae Jepsen are a few examples from 2015)November 5, 2015 at 3:51 pm #413619
The thing is the real good stuff isn’t on the radio… but that’s not a problem 🙂 Viva the internet.
The people who say that is stuck and need to turn off the radio and open their freakin ears. Also complaining about the nowadays radio is dumb… back then there was also a ton of sht but they forgot.November 5, 2015 at 4:03 pm #413620

Total matter of taste, obviously, but to me Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith are prime examples of one weak side of modern music. A big boring same old; nothing really appealing to offer, not musically, not lyrically, not in their singing. But that’s enough in their generic comfort game – not an easy thing to pull off with success though.November 13, 2015 at 6:37 pm #413621
I think for me, the main issue is that the artists I loved growing up and the style of music I adore has faded out of popularity and has been replaced with styles and artists I can’t find an emotional connection too. I’d trade Taylor Swift or Beyonce any day for another album of Toni Braxton ballads circa the 1990’s or another 80’s era Whitney Houston album.November 15, 2015 at 3:16 pm #413622
Honey, there is no good modern music. #TruthNovember 15, 2015 at 3:22 pm #413623
I could record a dog farting and it’d get enough downloads to be gold if I remixed it correctly. Also what’s radio?November 17, 2015 at 10:24 am #413624
There is none. All we really have now are singles artist. No one can really make an album. Only a few artist now a days can actually make an decent album that’s great. Don’t even get me started on vocals. Chiiile.November 17, 2015 at 6:37 pm #413625

Conceptually and sonically, artists of all genres are making unified works all the time. These are just really good ones off of the top of my head. Popular artists like Adele, Justin Bieber, and Muse are making albums that are meant to have overarching themes and ideas where every song is part of the whole.
Also, if you truly, honestly think that there’s NO good music, there’s a 99% chance you’re not looking that hard. Maybe after spending a few days or weeks panning out the unmined wonders of Soundcloud and Bandcamp, and finding absolutely nothing that you like, then it’s possible that, to you, there’s no good music to be found.
