Who would be nominated in this case? It would be interesting to imagine what if.

If this were the case, Bieber would win his 2nd Grammy.

I really wish that they hadn’t merged the categories.

I agree with Brayden on the winners for 2012-2016, except I’d replace “Let It Go” with “Chandelier” (Sia had SOTY/ROTY noms, which would push her to a win).

    The 2017 nominees would be:

    Female Pop Solo
    Adele
    Kelly Clarkson
    Pink
Sia (if eligible; Ariana Grande if not)
Beyoncé (if she submits here; Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, or Meghan Trainor if not)

    Male Pop Solo
    Justin Bieber
    Justin Timberlake
    Shawn Mendes
    Drake
    Zayn / Troye Sivan

Adele and either Justin would win.

How can you guys let go Katy Perry’s and Gaga’s chances? They are still Grammy darlings.. Even tho Katy never won she got nominated every year since her debut if she were eligible and Gaga has 6 awards so i think their chances are much higher than Kelly Clarkson which came and go early this year and obv Selena Gomez

These categories are about chart performance/proven performers in these categories. They usually tend to lean Adult Contemporary and female with Pop winners: Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift for example. That’s why Adele, Justin Timberlake, P!nk and Kelly Clarkson are in Pop Solo whether you like it or not.

Bieber is not guaranteed, but would be a snub, especially since “Love Yourself” was one of the biggest songs of the year.

“Rise” and “Perfect Illusion” are let downs, chart-wise and in quality. Not to mention that GaGa released PI a couple weeks before eligibility period, when most voters have made up their mind of what to nominate. Don’t hold your breath.

I’m not convinced that either categories would be as hit-filled as Best Pop Solo Performance. You would always have those random tracks by Bonnie Raitt, Paul McCartney, James Taylor and Michael Buble. Best Pop Solo is probably more hit-filled now because the entry list is probably so long, so voters go with what they know and hear all the time.
