Former rapper Rah Digga made harsh remarks about Iggy’s lack of authenticity when she raps. She claimed she doesn’t sound like a girl from Australia and is immitating black cadence in her music. Do you agree with the criticism of Iggy’s southern accent? Discuss.

That has to be the stupidest thing I ever heard. Whoever Rah Digga is just sounds dumb.

LMAO! Hate on Iggy all you want, I personally don’t think she’s too great, but to say that she is imitating a “black” rapping style is a statement that is in and of itself racist.

Vocal black face ? Wtf ! So any white soul singer like Adele, Amy Winehouse, Kelly Clarkson, Sam Smith, Teena, Robin, Xtina, Joss Stone etc should be considered “vocal black face” ? Rah Digga is being a troll. She’s bitter.

I get it. I really do. There’s a difference between having a naturally soulful voice and re-arranging your speech and slang to sound like someone from a different culture, race and country. The fact that female rappers nowadays that aren’t Nicki have had so much trouble getting any type of promo yet alone any hits and then here comes a white girl from Australia who raps like she’s from south- I get it. However, I’ve never been as offended by “cultural appropriation” as others. I believe that once art is popular it belongs to everyone, no matter the race. I just hope unless her songs get better, she’ll quickly fade away. Because she’s done nothing even slightly impressive thus far.

But those soul singers do those things. Hip Hop is just very tough and I get it. As far as other female rappers go, Iggy didn’t come out of no where. Anyone who follows hip hop should know that. She’s been bubbling for a few years now. She put out mixtape after mixtape. Did cypher after cypher and got a consign from her boss TI. Just like any other femcee could, she got lucky with “Fancy.” All it takes is that one single. Her doing nothing impressive is opinionated so I’m just gonna leave that one alone.

I’ve been well aware of Iggy for at least a couple of years. And of course, her “doing nothing impressive” is an opinion.

What Iggy Azalea is doing is cultural appropriation. There is nothing authentic about it. I cringe every time I hear her faux Southern rap accent. I respect Rah Digga for calling her out and agree wholeheartedly. I wouldn’t go as far as to call it “musical blackface” as I don’t think her intention is to mock or degrade. However, it does offend and sicken me that she feels that she has a right to essentially rip off and exploit someone else’s culture for commercial gain.
