Do you guys think Janet Jackson will be winning any Grammy’s in 2017? Did her recent album “Unbreakable” make enough of an impact to sail Janet to some General Field nominations and/or wins?

I believe that the albums release fell just outside of eligibility for the 2016 Grammy’s, and that she will compete in 2017, is that correct?

She could have been a contender for Best Contemporary Urban Album but Beyoncé has taken over that category with Lemonade.

Yes. Janet Jackson’s Unbreakable is eligible for this year’s Grammy Awards.

No, she won’t get nominated in the General field or win any awards. Janet could get snubbed of nominations. Her latest album just came and went.

Ms. Jackson’s best shot at nominations are:

    Best R&B Performance: “Dammn Baby”
    Best R&B Song: “Dammn Baby”
    Best Urban Contemporary Album: Unbreakable

Yeah, I think you may be correct. Janet is probably not going to get any wins this year. Too bad too because I really want her to get her due. I feel like she has always been under appreciated by Grammy.

I, too, feel like Janet has been underappreciated by the Grammys. I can’t believe she’s only won 5 Grammy Awards in her 30+ year career. #Pitiful.

Beyonce has Best Urban Contemporary Album on lock. NARAS could throw Jackson a bone in Best R&B Performance and/or Best R&B Song. I doubt it though.

Jackson’s “No Sleeep” should have been submitted in the R&B categories last year. She probably would not have won, but it may have garnered her nominations for R&B Song, Rap/Sung Collaboration (w/J. Cole), and “Unbreakable” could have been submitted for R&B Traditional Performance. I agree that this year, “Dammn Baby” may be her only shot at a nomination in the R&B categories, and her album may get into Best Urban Contemporary Album, but the competition is tough.

She’s most likely going to be snubbed. The album is long forgotten and her singles didn’t make any impact anywhere.

Lol no. This album came and went. If she submits to Urban Contemporary, she MIGHT get nominated. But a win is out of the question.

Janet should get nominated and win r&B album

R&b performance should be for unbreakable and r&b song unbreakable

I hope “After You Fall” can get a nomination for R&B traditional performance

    Lets hope

What exactly is the difference between R&B and Urban R&B anyway? Isn’t all R&B music by definition urban?

I’m surprised this thread is still a hot topic lol.

Urban Contemporary is R&B that incorporates elements of Pop, Urban Pop, Urban Rock, Urban Alternative, and/or Euro Pop. So artists like Rihanna, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Usher, Janelle Monae, and Miguel fit that particular category.

Janet’s new album straddles the fence between both traditional R&B and Contemporary. However, I think her best bet would be in R&B Album. Urban Contemporary is dead locked with Beyonce, Rihanna, Bryson Tiller, Frank Ocean, Chris Brown, and possibly an Anderson Pak thrown into the mix.

R&B Album is looking less competitive this year. You’ve got Maxwell, Anthony Hamilton, Fantasia, Chrisette Michele, etc. Any of those acts could be bumped out because of how weak it is.
