A few years back Leona Lewis was EVERYWHERE, and was touted as basically being “the next big thing”. It’s hard to deny that “Bleeding Love” was pretty huge.   But after that she’s sort of just dissappeared.  Her subsequent album failed to make a dent in the states.

So, is she a one-hit wonder? Do you think she has a chance at finding another big song like “Bleeding Love?”

Hmm, I also like her cover of the Snow Patrol song “Run”.

    Well, technically, she’s not a one-hit wonder.
After “Bleeding Love” hit #1, she’s had several singles chart on the Billboard Hot 100:

    “Better in Time” (2008) #11
    “Run” (2008) #81
    “I Will Be” (2009) #66
    “Happy” (2009) #31

“Better in Time” was a good follow-up, I like it better than “Bleeding Love”.

I also liked her “I Got U” and “Collide” which both should be hits. You never know why “One More Night” stays multiple weeks on #1 and some better songs don’t even chart.

As of right now Lewis is really in trouble. She needs a song that will showcase her amazing vocal technique once again. But, if Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez were able to return to the top, why wouldn’t she?

She’s had loads of hits in the UK, although her most recent album has kinds flopped.

Her major problem is two fold. She’s with Syco who manage to fuck up everyone’s careers and she has absolutely no personality whatsoever.

Enrique was already huge among the Latin Charts before he hit a international success.
Jennifer Lopez had also a name in the film world

Both are more versatile that Leona. I like her, but she is very restricted in her music. She is just a singer, not a songwriter…
But she does quite well what she does-

I loved her in “I ll see u”

I, too, like “Better In Time” better than “Bleeding Love.”

Leona Lewis had two top 20 hits.  So, no she is not a one-hit wonder.

Okay thanks for answering my question. Do you think she’ll ever become a bigger success? At one point she was being called “the next Mariah Carey” and “the next Whitney Houston”… Clearly her career has not lived up to that hype.

She was snubbed at the Grammys for BNA,  US radio was not playing her, etc. , sad story.

    Unfortunately yes.

Leonas people dont really know what to do with her and her voice. But the bigger issue is that she is lacks star quality and the “it” factor.

The sad truth about the industry is that to make it its less about talent and more about star quailty and appeal. Leona lacks persoanlity and as such she wasnt able to get a fanbase

She might be a one hit wonder in the US, but in the UK and Europe she had a couple of hits. I remember that “Run” re-entered the Top 10 here countless times, it might have been an even bigger hit than “Bleeding Love” considering how long it stayed in the charts.

I love her voice but I agree she lacks personality and stage presence. I’m guessing that’s the reason she keeps flopping in the US after her debut album. Is she planning on releasing a new album in North America again?

Since her second single reached #11 and I still hear it sometimes, I would say no. HOWEVER, there are plenty of other singers with two or three hits who are called one-hit-wonders (especially by VH1) because they have one hit that was #1 and far more popular than the other singles. So in the long run she’ll probably be remembered for “Bleeding Love” and nothing else. So, the short answer is probably yes.

I actually hear “Better In Time” on the radio more than I do with “Bleeding Love”, and the song charted fairly. I would say she is more of a two hit wonder. (Many artists today.)

One-Hit wonders of today, would be that one group The Wanted and Carly Rae Jepsen.

I think the fact that she recorded the end credits song for Avatar, the highest-grossing movie of all time at the worldwide box office, yet still was unable to have a hit single with “I See You” speaks a lot about much success she’ll have in the future.  That could have been the next “My Heart Will Go On.” I’m not sure how much bigger of a platform she needs to give her a relevant song again. Not saying it can’t or won’t happen, but it’s not something I expect to happen.  While she may not have technically been a one-hit wonder, I do think she was a flash-in-the-pan.
