Would someone please explain to me WHY there is sooo much HATRED for Taylor Swift? Yesterday I saw the “annoying skank” assault on FB and shook my head in disgust. What is behind these constant assaults against her? Personally, I like her music and I think she’s talented, but I’m not a superfan. I don’t feel passionately about her one way or the other.

SIDE NOTE: Yes, I know that there is a separate Taylor Swift thread, but I want to call out this thought for special attention so I can get this mystery solved once and for all. Really bugs me.

Taylor has power and success and as a woman it makes people uncomfortable. To quote Taylor “Haters gonna Hate, Hate, Hate”.

I really like her. I’m not obsessed but I’m a decently big fan. However I do understand how people might find her music annoying or not exactly their taste even though I disagree.

But the reason that people so agressively hate her is honestly just because it seems like the cool thing to do to some people. She’s a woman, which already opens up a whole can of worms about why people criticize her, please her audience is primarily young and mainstream. It makes people think they seem mature and artistically savvy to hate on her.

She has talent and she is really good at her job but I think she is annoying and tries too hard to be relatable to teenagers

She doesn’t really bother me much as an artist, but her “public persona” is a bit off-putting to me… I think it all comes down to overexposure. She’s been constantly in the media, even more now after her “pop crossover” and I don’t mean just her music being overplayed, but there’s always some drama she’s involved in… it make people get tired, i guess.

She has talent and is not annoying. It’s just that some of her songs aren’t that good, namely “Shake it Off”.

I normally hate country songs, but she was one of the few artists with talent in that field where every sounds the goddamn same!

I honestly don’t know why people go after her. The only reason that I can come up with is because they can. To me, it is a waste of time and in the end, it can be used to a person’s advantage. One of my most favorite female singers, LeAnn Rimes, is constantly trashed over everything that she says, everything that she does, everything that she doesn’t say, and everything that she doesn’t do. To me the people behind the hateful messages only waste their time getting them up online because LeAnn has made as clear as crystal glass that no one underneath the Lord has any real power over her choice of action and I believe that Taylor has made that as clear as crystal glass about herself too.

God bless you and her and LeAnn always!!!

Holly (a day one fan of LeAnn)

I guess it’s the overexposure for some people. I’m just not a fan of her music. Some of her songs sounds like kid bop music to me, especially “Shake It Off”.

After achieving a certain degree of popularity, you’re bound to be polarizing. It doesn’t matter who you are. Like @valarmorghulis said, it’s overexposure. Taylor Swift is among the most significant figures in western culture, with a highly publicized narrative to boot. I mean, I’m not a fan, and I think she’s given too much credit, but who cares? In fact, no matter what anyone says about Taylor Swift matters, she has done pretty much everything right. No, she’s not all that talented, and her music is never going to be held in high regard, but none of that is important. 99.9999999% of the time, anyone who calls Taylor Swift a mean name doesn’t have the influence or wealth that she has acquired, and so their words are meaningless.

I like some of her music and I think she she is somewhat talented, but my problem with her is she is way too overexposed. Also, her super-fans will eat you alive if you say something bad about her. Even if you hate her, you can’t deny she has been killing it lately.

I became a bigger fan of hers after 1989. Especially on Blank Space, where she prove that she wasn’t Kanye-ing herself (which is what I thought was happening during the Red era) and had a sense of humor.
1989 is her most consistent and her voice has matured a lot. Its not as good as Speak Now, but its a fun record. She’s no belter, but she can sell the message of the song, which I think is the most important. Girl knows how to write a hook.

    Is she overexposed? Yes.
    Is her popularity overhyped? Maybe.
    Is she talented? Hell yes.

P.S. Out of the Woods is the best pop song of the year and should be its next single.

I agree with Tom on this one. That comment is just deplorable. I find the hatred for her is just tiresome, and I wish that people who don’t like her would just shut up and not listen to her music. And it’s not like she’s one of those celebrities that is out there every night getting drunk, or saying how great they are. Frankly she actually comes across as being a pretty positive influence. Maybe direct these comments at someone who is actually talentless, or better yet, don’t say them at all.

Of course!  She lacks talent.  I have more talent in my pinky finger.  Her songs and songwriting skills are very pedestrian.  She is an overexposed hag.  ( * Barf * )

Ok, how many Grammys have you won for songwriting then? Cause the last time I checked Taylor has won three.

Honey, I have won five Grammys for songwriting.  You tried that!  Taylor Swift only wins Grammys because she is hugely popular and sells a lot of records.  That does not excuse the fact that she is a terrible singer.
