It has been awhile since we have heard from Kelis. Her last album Fleshtone, which took a heavy dance/electronic route, was divisive among her fans (I actually LOVE the album, but know others were put off by it).
However, it seems she is back with a new song, which is throwback to 70’s soul/R&B.
It’s called “Jerk Ribs.” Anyone hear it? If, not check it out:
Thoughts? I love it and actually think Kelis is one of most versatle and underrated female artists out there right now.July 25, 2013 at 3:26 pm #389183
“Fleshtone” is one of my favourite albums ever. It’s EDM perfection. And I agree with you, Kelis is one of the most underrated female artists out there. I wish more people were exposed to the greatness of “Fleshtone”.July 25, 2013 at 9:05 pm #389184
I was just thinking about Kelis the other day. I’ve enjoyed all of her albums. The new single is really nice. This girl is so underrated.July 25, 2013 at 9:19 pm #389185
I love “Jerk Ribs”. Been bumpin’ it for over a month. I love that she always switches up her sound. I agree with all the above, she’s very underrated.July 30, 2013 at 8:18 pm #389186
Kelis should have won the Grammy for Milkshake over Hey Ya by Outkast.April 23, 2014 at 5:21 am #389187
Kelis just released her new album “Food” yesterday. Listened to it a couple times and I have to strongly reiterate what I said in my initial post above: she is so severely underrated it is not even funny.
The album has a throwback, 70’s R&B/Aretha Franklin vibe to it and what I truly like it about it is showcases her wonderful voice….FINALLY. The girl can sang!
“Rumble” is great at the video is quite simpliistic, yet pretty creative.
It really is a shame she does not get more attention and credit.April 23, 2014 at 7:25 pm #389188
I didn’t know Kelis had a new album out.April 24, 2014 at 5:37 am #389189
You should check it out. Very solid album and if she was more popular/successful, it could truly be a contender for Best R&B Album. She nails the throwback feel/vibe perfectly and I think people who know her as just the chick that sings “Milkshake” will be absolutely floored at how great and soulful her voice truly is. There is an artistry and theme running through this album that you rarely see anymore.
Bless the Telephone
Again, she is truly one of the most versatile female artists out there right now.
