Grammy nominated crooner Miguel is prepping to release his sophomore album on October 2nd. He has been releasing previews of what we can expect to hear from him his second time around. The first preview, Kaleidoscope Dream: Water Preview, was released back in July. The 3 track EP previews are available for purchase on iTunes. The next preview titled, Kaleidoscope Dream: Air Preview will be available for purchase on iTunes on September 11th but you can listen to it below.
The Air Preview is another 3 track compilation of tracks from Kaleidoscope Dream including the title track, “Kaleidoscope Dream”, “Do You” and “The Thrill”. Before Miguel decided to take off on his own, he was known for working with a few big named artists including Usher, Asher Roth, Musiq Soulchild and Jahiem. Take a listen to the Air Preview and let us know what you think. Be sure to cop your download on September 11th on iTunes and make your way to Best Buy for the album on October 2nd.
I’ve been loving all of the EPs have released. “Adorn” is currently doing really well on the charts.September 10, 2012 at 12:10 pm #384006
He really loves the Robyn strategy, huh? I listened to the “Arch n’ Point” trilogy of eps, but I haven’t listened to this new preview eps. I’ll try to check it out later, he sounded very promising in the ones I listened to.September 11, 2012 at 1:11 pm #384007
“Adorn” is an amazing song. I can’t wait to see what Miguel has in store. I was a fan of “Sure Thing” and “All I Want Is You” from his previous album.September 15, 2012 at 11:17 am #384008
“Adorn” is #1 on the R&B/Hip Hop charts.September 15, 2012 at 12:26 pm #384009
Hoping the GRAMMYs don’t snub Miguel like last year. “Adorn” is one of the best records this year. He deserves love in the R&B field.September 19, 2012 at 12:20 pm #384010
I have bought his Water and Air Previews and both are very outstanding! I can’t wait until the full album drops!!September 27, 2012 at 12:49 pm #384011
I was a big fan of All I Want Is You, but Kaleidoscope Dream is definitely on another level. Possibly my favorite album of the year. It has even topped Channel Orange, which is also an excellent release. The production is top notch, the vocals are immaculate and the songwriting is definitely there. This will probably lose any Grammy it’s nominated for (Frank seems like the big favorite this year), but it deserves some nominations. If it doesn’t get any, I would be great diasppointed. If I were a voter, I would check off his name in any category he’s submitted to. I love Miguel isn’t conforming to the stale R&B style Trey and other R&B artists have been pushing for years now. Between Miguel, Elle Varner (who has also put out some interesting music and has a voice on her) and the highly buzzed about Frank Ocean, R&B is definitely moving forward. I just wish sales were reflecting that. The Weeknd is someone to look out for next eligibility period as well (not a huge fan of his though).
Anyway, my favorite tracks include:
How Many Drinks
Don’t Look Back
Arch & Point
Where’s The Fun In Forever
Pussy Is Mine
Hell, the whole album is awesome.September 27, 2012 at 1:11 pm #384012
Miguel was nominated for a Grammy?
When and what category?September 27, 2012 at 1:16 pm #384013
As songwriter for Jaheim’s “Finding My Way Back” in 2011September 27, 2012 at 1:21 pm #384014
Correct. He had writing credits on “Finding My Way Back,” which was nominated for Best R&B Song.September 27, 2012 at 1:58 pm #384015
“Adorn” is currently #31 on the Hot 100. It’s a high for him on that chart. Keep going!September 27, 2012 at 2:40 pm #384016
Yea the cd is very addicting. My favorite tracks are Don’t Look Back, Use Me, Do You, Candles In The Sun, How Many Drinks.September 27, 2012 at 2:43 pm #384017
I agree that R&B is moving forward. I love that Miguel, Elle Varner and Frank Ocean have adapted and incorporated interesting production values into their work. It’s refreshing that they’ve left behind that tired R&B sound that has destroyed the genre. All three of these artists are REALLY talented and I look forward to see what they’ll do in years to come.
However, there’s a BIG, BIG problem with these newer R&B artists. They aren’t selling many records and they’re struggling with putting out singles that people can sing-a-along to. The music industry has really turned into a singles driven market. These R&B folks have got to start releasing more accessible singles or they are doomed! If you don’t have at least one hot single at one point during your album’s run, then you’re going to struggle to build an audience. Frank Ocean has received a ton of acclaim for a pretty solid album yet his singles are non-existent. Elle Varner has some great material on her album (including some pretty catchy tunes that could do well on radio). Yet her label opts to release “I Don’t Mind” over something like “Only Wanna Give It To You?” WTF?
With that said, Miguel’s “Adorn” is great! I’m really curious to hear the entire album. I didn’t care for the “All I Want” album and his recent EPs bored me. But with a strong first single and album track titles like “Pussy is Mine” I’m intrigued again!September 27, 2012 at 2:48 pm #384018

You would have a point if “Only Wanna Give It To You” wasn’t the 1st single.September 27, 2012 at 11:45 pm #384019
I have not seen him perform live yet but from what others have been telling me, Miguel is pretty darn awesome live. He can sing circles around Trey Songz anyday.
Based off what I’ve seen from watching performances on YouTube, his live voice is wonderful.
