Miley Cyrus announced at the VMAs a surprise new album called ‘Miley Cyrus and her Dead Petz’ and it’s a legitimately fantastic album so far… Granted, I’m only a few tracks in, but this is her best work BY FAR. She worked with Wayne Coyne (the Flaming Lips) on this, and his influence is felt throughout. She’s streaming it for free right now on mileycyrus.com, and I suggest giving it a listen. What do y’all think?! I think it’s shockingly brilliant.August 31, 2015 at 12:07 am #412264
So far, “Bang Me Box”, “Karen Don’t Be Sad”, “Milky Milky Milk”, and “Slab of Butter (Scorpion)”, and “The Floyd Song (Sunrise)” are my favorites. But this is seriously a fantastic album so far… Album of the Year good. I’m not even joking, and I’m shocked to say it.August 31, 2015 at 2:47 am #412265
Not the biggest fan of pop music but this album’s production is
impeccable. Too bad the vocals can’t quite keep up with the overall
quality since homegirl’s a mess. This would be an indie hit if it was
someone else’s album.August 31, 2015 at 6:57 am #412266
My biggest problem with the album is that it is much too long. A good 5 or more songs could’ve (should’ve) been cut (it stands at being 23 songs long, clocking in at 1 hour and 33 minutes).
The production is excellent and reflects the weed-smoke hazy feel of the album, and many of these songs are the best she’s ever made. I love the feel of this album.
Her vocals are not great, but there’s something about them here that’s kinda raw and more interesting than what she was doing previously.
I’m not sure what I would call this album exactly. It’s pop at it’s core I suppose, but there are psychedelic flourishes, acoustic singer/songwriter moments, some funk, some R&B sounds here and there… It’s a new sound for her.August 31, 2015 at 9:27 am #412267
I will be checking this album out later. Going in with very low expectations. I’d be surprised it’s as good as you’re hyping it up to be!August 31, 2015 at 3:44 pm #412268

I was initially going to drag this album but I must admit that there a few tracks that stood out as great. I admire Miley’s free spirit and some of the production is impressive. It would’ve been better if her vocals were cleaned up in the studio.September 1, 2015 at 9:00 am #412270
I agree about the vocals Circa1993. They work for some songs, like “Floyd Song (Sunrise)”, but yeah, they could’ve been cleaned up on other tracks for sure. I will admit, on repeat listens I am less enthusiastic than I initially was (because I had only gotten through about half of the album), but I still think this is good and different for her, and she’s at least pushing her artistry forward. But it is much too long… And some songs just go on too long and feel like demos and not finished songs (especially in the second half).September 1, 2015 at 9:09 am #412271
Pleasantly surprised with this album! It’s not great, but it’s quite good! The production is on point and there are some gems in there (“Dooo It!”, “Space Boots”, “BB Talk”, “I Forgive Yiew” and “Lighter”) but there are some absolute duds too (“Fuckin Fucked Up”, “Bang Me Box”, “Milky Milk Milk”)
I go back and forth on taking this album seriously and laughing because it’s so ridiculous.
