Two new Ed Sheeran songs dropped today, signaling an upcoming new era in 2017. They already occupy the #1 and #2 songs on iTunes, respectively. Look out for them in the coming weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100. This would be a perfect time for him to book a slot on “SNL” and the Grammys.
“Shape of You” is both upbeat and playful, revealing a more risqué lyrical side than I think I’ve ever heard from his output. “Castle on the Hill” is like a version of “7 Years” that’s actually worth a damn, so it’s pure Grammy bait.

For me “Castle on the Hill” is the new frontrunner to get a nomination for Song Of The Year (I know it’s very early in the eligibility period to call a frontrunner) and will be his fourth nomination 🙂
“Shape of You” it’s my favorite, more Record Of The Year and Pop Solo material.January 6, 2017 at 7:56 pm #1201981332
You had me at “New Ed Sheeran music”January 7, 2017 at 6:54 am #1201981486
Yes! Love Love Love the new stuffJanuary 7, 2017 at 8:11 am #1201981503
Yeah, if stuff like “7 Years” and “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” are getting nominated, “Castle on the Hill” is in immediate contention for SOTY next year. I don’t think Ed Sheeran is amazing, but he’s solid enough – especially compared to a lot similar mainstream artists.January 7, 2017 at 8:14 am #1201981505
I also think “Castle” is instant and could be huge on the radio this year.January 7, 2017 at 9:58 am #1201981526
A few days ago, I was going to post on the Grammys 2017 thread that it is too soon to talk about next year’s awards. Today, I’m that idiot running around screaming “Castle on the Hill for Song of the Year!!!!”
But seriously…it’s amazing. “Shape of You” is good and a bit more pop radio friendly, and it seems to be the more popular song as of right now. But I wonder if the tide will shift and “Castle on the Hill” becomes the bigger hit. It’s a much more superior song, and it is also just as radio-friendly. I’m excited to see music videos for both songs, and I’m so excited for a new album from Sheeran.January 7, 2017 at 12:16 pm #1201981640
Ed is coming to snatch Pop Vocal Album next year!!!!January 7, 2017 at 1:50 pm #1201981693
I hope Divide is better than Multiply. On Multiply, he was emulating different artists and lacked the personality that made his first album, Plus, so great. Thinking Out Loud and Photograph were John Mayer knockoffs, Don’t and Sing were Justin Timberlake knockoffs.
“Shape of You” is just another boring radio song ala Justin Bieber or Drake.
His folk roots are his forte and why I think “Castle on the Hill” is his best song in years. I hope that song is the bigger hit.January 18, 2017 at 10:53 am #1201990201
Finally getting around to checking out his two new songs. Castle On the Hill is definitely my favorite, but I’m still surprised that Shape of You is doing better (maybe for it’s more suggestive lyrics appealing to teens?)January 19, 2017 at 2:58 am #1201990667
First solo #1! Congrats!
“Divide” is expected to be released on 3/3/17.March 3, 2017 at 6:28 am #1202028572
Bump for today’a album release!March 3, 2017 at 10:55 am #1202028736
I was listening to the album and I have to say my impression. I didn’t find a song that I love at first like happened with “Photograph” or “Thinking out Loud” but the entire album has a very good level and will sure be nominated for Best Pop vocal Album and, if the year continues to be not a great for music, surely he will get a nomination for Album of the Year and maybe a win it.

Pop Vocal Album and Pop Solo are sure bets.
