The quintessential king of music lampoonery “Weird Al” Yankovic has officially announced a brand new album titled “Mandatory Fun” to be released on July 15th, 2014.

Alfred Matthew “Weird Al” Yankovic is famous for his parodies of several serious Hollywood songs, namely “Beat It” by Michael Jackson entitled “Eat It”, “Bad” by Michael Jackson with “Fat”, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana with “Smells Like Nirvana”, “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio with “Amish Paradise”, and my personal favourite, Chamillionaire’s “Ridin’ Dirty” with “White & Nerdy”. His antics have garnered him eleven Grammy Award nominations, winning three of them, including Best Comedy Album in 2003 for Poodle Hat.

His albums usually consist of six direct parodies, five original songs with a style towards a particular artist/band, and one polka medley that combines a medley of songs by other artists sung by Al and composed in a polka beat. No tracks for “Mandatory Fun” have been released as of yet, but TMZ reported that Weird Al “ambushed” Iggy Azalea for permission to parody of her songs, most likely “Fancy” as that was her biggest hit.

I never thought of “Tacky” being a parody of “Happy” wow lol. But yeah, I think that “Foil” will be “Royals” and “Word Crimes” will be “Blurred Lines”.

And speaking of which, here’s the official premiere of his first music video for the album. “Tacky” is a parody of “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Music video features cameos from Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal & Jack Black.

Word Crimes is a Top 5 Werid Al song for me and Tacky, Sports Song, and NOW That’s What I Call Polka! are great too. The rest are forgettable.

Music video for “Foil”, parody of “Royals” by Lorde.

I chose not to listen to the album yet, because I want to be surprised when he releases the eight new music videos, then I will listen to the four music video-less songs, and give my concensus thereafter.
