Anyone else thinking that One Republic could score a Pop Duo/Group performance nomination for “Counting Stars?”   It was a pretty decent sized hit, but I do not see them being mentioned much at all.

for LOVE RUNS OUT – yes,
for COUNTING STARS – no, as it was submitted last year.

    Thanks for the clarificaton.

“Love Runs Out” is a good song as well; I can see it getting the nomination.

I think people are overlooking them. “Counting Stars” was a massive hit, staying in the top 10 for 25 weeks but all of that happened after last year’s Grammy nominations. The song won’t be on the ballot, so voters may feel inclined to vote for “Love Runs Out” which hasn’t been a big success (though it’s not a flop), but it’s a very good song.

It definitely deserves a nomination over stuff like “Problem”, “Dark Horse” and “Bang Bang”.

    Pop Solo Performance
    “Chandelier” – Sia
    “Let It Go”- Idina Menzel
“Stay With Me” – Sam Smith
    “Team”- Lorde
    “XO”/”Pretty Hurts”- Beyonce

ALT: “Sing”/”Don’t”- Ed Sheeran, “Not A Bad Thing” – Justin Timberlake (mediocre boy pop)

-So is “Happy” eligible here and has a live version of “All of Me” ever been released?
-It would be awesome if left field choices like “West Coast” and “Girls Chase Boys” got in here

    Pop Duo/Group Performance
“Dark Horse” – Katy Perry & Juicy J (I could see this getting snubbed, but that may be wishful thinking)
    “Maps” – Maroon 5
“Problem”- Ariana Grande ft Iggy Azalea
    “Rude”- MAGIC!
“Say Something”- A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera

ALT: “Love Runs Out”- One Republic; “A Sky Full of Stars”- Coldplay

    Pop Vocal Album

1000 Forms of Fear – Sia
    G I R L– Pharrell Williams
In the Lonely Hour – Sam Smith
    X – Ed Sheeran
    Prism – Katy Perry
    Ultraviolence– Lana Del Rey

    ALT: My Everything– Ariana Grande

-It’s so hard to limit it down from here. The only real lock is Sam Smith. I predict that Maroon 5 will be overlooked- has gotten the worse reviews of Maroon 5’s career and I doubt it will have comparable commercial success to Overexposed. I may be biased toward Lana (who IMO has the best album of this bunch), but she just got in for an EP and Ultraviolence is a much stronger, critically acclaimed effort. And her profile has been significantly raised in the industry over the last 2 years. I want to take Katy Perry out of this lineup, but I would be pretty shocked if she missed out on a nomination even in a competitive year. Logically, Sia is the most vulnerable because she has never gotten a solo Grammy nomination, but this is a great chance to recognize her and she has a lot of industry cred.
-Submissions will help make predicting this category easier. I don’t know if it would be the smartest moves, but Lana and Sia could potentially submit to Alternative Album and Pharrell may go to Urban Contemporary.

Wow! What a weak year for Pop Group or Duo.

Do we really think Lana Del Rey will be submitted in Pop? Ultraviolence is 100% an alternative/rock album. Just because her EP was nominated in Pop doesn’t mean this one has to.

It would be super weird knowing that Dan Auerbach’s work (he co-produced several songs) would be in a Pop field…
    And G I R L isn’t a Pop album either. I hope it shows up in Urban/Contemporary instead.

Unless “Animals” becomes a big hit between now and 9/30, I think Maroon 5’s V is vulnerable. But there really aren’t a lot of options… I still see Gaga getting a nomination, as much as the album underperformed. It’s weird to imagine Gaga left out of Pop nominations.

My Pop field predictions (with Lana in Alternative):

    Pop Vocal Album:
In The Lonely Hour, Sam Smith
    Prism, Katy Perry
    1000 Forms of Fear, Sia
    V, Maroon 5
    ARTPOP, Lady Gaga

    Best Pop Solo Performance:
“Stay With Me” – Sam Smith
    “Chandelier” – Sia
    “Sing” – Ed Sheeran
“Shake It Off” – Taylor Swift
    “Happy” – Pharrell

    Best Pop Duo/Group Performance:
“Dark Horse” – Katy Perry feat. Juicy J
    “Ain’t It Fun” – Paramore
    “Maps” – Maroon 5
    “Rude” – Magic!
“Say Something” – A Great Big World feat. Christina Aguilera

it’s kind of relieving to see Ed Sheeran’s album left out of Pop Album in your predictions, but do you think Gaga can get in over him?

The Black Keys were nominated in Pop duo/group for “Dearest” a few years back, so Dan Aucherbach’s work has already been in the pop field… And Lana just got into Pop Vocal Album last year. I’d be surprised if she didn’t submit there again.

Cheek to Cheek will likely get into Traditional Pop Vocal Album, so Gaga won’t be left out of the pop field, but ARTPOP does not have much going for it at this point and Pop Vocal Album is pretty competitive. I would love it if Gaga was able to make it in (I’d take ARTPOP over x, Prism and G I R L any day), but that’s wishful thinking.

I mean as of right now Ed Sheeran has 3 nominations all in the GF they must like him. He’ll probably get into Pop album and Pop solo. I dont think Gaga is getting in anywhere but Traditional pop because Artpop was a flop. See that I just rhymed.

I guess I’d be happy to Lana get nominated no matter which category she’s placed in. Love me some Ultraviolence!

I really hope Ed Sheeran doesn’t show up in the nominations besides “Sing”. His debut was so intimate and wonderful but X is a jumbled mess.
