October 19, 2015 at 7:38 pm #413321YES! No Jay-Z! No Eminem! No Jay-Z! So that should make way for J. Cole’s overdue Rap Album nomination!
I feel Kendrick Lamar is the frontrunner for at least three of the Rap field categories. If he was able to win two Grammys for “i,” then “Alright” and the most acclaimed album of the year should give him a few wins this time around. I’m still formulating my rap predictions.
But rap album is highly competitive. I’m not sure if Big Sean is a lock for a Rap Album nomination when Lupe Fiasco is a perennial nominee, Nicki has that commercial appeal and Run The Jewels was one of the most talked about rap albums in 2014 and part of 2015. At the very least, he should get a Rap/Sung Collaboration nomination.
The only “locks” I can think of are Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Drake. The other two spots could end up going to anyone. Who’s to say Fetty Wap won’t get in on the hype of those three songs? This is the same category that ignored YG for mediocre commercial releases by Wiz Khalifa and Iggy Azelea.
