The R&B field will have a lot of great stuff to choose from.

Best R&B Performance and Best Traditional R&B Performance are almost interchangeable.

For instance, where will Eric Benet’s “Sunshine” be placed?

i would guess that Traditional R&B Performance is the best place to submit it.
what about Andra Day’s Gold, Anthony Hamilton’s Amen or Gregory Porter’s Holding On?

i’ve added Usher’s upcoming album – Hard II Love. don’t know if it stands a chance, as his last album was snubbed in Urban Contemporary Album.

Will Janet Jackson be able to score a Best Urban Contemporary Album nomination? The category is very competitive. Plus, her album seems like old news.

No. Janet lost steam once she cancelled her tour.

I expect Michael Kiwanuka’s “Love & Hate” to surprisingly snatch up several nominations in r&b album and traditional r&b. That’s who I’m rooting for.

I would still much rather see Tamar submit to R&B Album rather than Urban Contemporary, but I doubt she’d grab a nomination in either so I guess it doesn’t really matter. I seem to think Janet has lost steam too, especially considering Rihanna, Beyonce and Frank released albums in the eligibility period and are pretty much shoe-ins. Add to that Bryson Tiller who had a massive year.

Would love to see Fantasia’s Ugly snatch a nomination too, best R&B vocal of 2016 in my opinion.

Urban Contemporary Album is way too competitive for Usher. Hard II Sell was a bomb across the board. With Beyoncé, Rihanna, Frank Ocean, Chris Brown, Bryson Tiller, possibly Fantasia as a perennial nominee (if she ends up there instead of R&B Album) and the usual under-the-radar critically acclaim fillers to possibly contend, I don’t see why there would be a need to nominate Usher.

If Usher gets in, it would be based on his name only. In any other situation, he would not matter this year.

I do agree that the nominees will end up like this: Beyoncé, Rihanna, Bryson Tiller, Frank Ocean and Anderson .Paak. Sounds like a pretty decent lineup to me.

I wonder if Lalah Hathaway can go for her third straight win for Traditional R&B Performance and fourth win overall. This woman has become a Grammy favorite all of a sudden.

I think Fantasia has a really good chance at R&B Traditional performance and Best R&B SONG

Honey, Usher’s latest album is titled Hard II Love. Usher usually gets at least one Grammy nomination every album. So, Best Urban Contemporary Album isn’t too far fetched. Plus, his album received pretty good reviews.

I would not mind if Chris Brown got snubbed in Best Urban Contemporary Album. He hasn’t released a good album in years.

Tamar Braxton’s label should submit to Best R&B Album. As the other category is hotly contested. She’s been having a good track-record with the Grammys. So, she may get in.

Fantasia always gets nominated. She’ll easily scoop up Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Album nominations. She may even get into Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song.

Look for Beyonce to sweep this year with Formation.

    R&B Performance

    R&B Song

    Contemporary R&B Album

Her biggest competition IMO is Frank Ocean, but he doesn’t have a label behind him so I could see him being shut out all together.

Beyonce has won Tradtional R&B twice- what will she enter this year?

Beyonce won’t get nominated in Best Traditional R&B Performance.

I’m not 100% sure Beyonce will sweep the R&B field. Outside of Best Urban Contemporary Album, the other R&B categories are up for grabs.
