I know that the R&B categories were a lot tougher in the 80s, but some of the following snubs were surprising to me:
Stephanie Mills for the following:
I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love in R&B Female in 1986 I Feel Good in R&B Female in 1987
If I Were Your Woman in R&B Female in 1988
Something In The Way You Make Me Feel in 1989
Rene & Angela for Your Smile or You Don’t Have To Cry in R&B Duo or Group in 1986
Vesta Williams for Congratulations in R&B Female in 1988
Gwen Guthrie for Ain’t Nothing Going On But The Rent in R&B Female in 1986
Keith Sweat for I Want Her in R&B Male in 1988
Al B. Sure for Night and Day in R&B Male in 1988.
Jermaine Jackson for Dynamite in R&B Male in 1984
Can you think of any others that you were surprised were snubbed for a nomination in the 80s in R&B?

I also thought the following:
Automatic by The Pointer Sisters in 1984 for R&B Duo or Group. This song did win the Vocal Arrangement Award.
Joanna by Kool & the Gang in 1984 for R&B Duo or GroupMarch 19, 2012 at 5:06 am #380108
Al B. Sure! was nominated for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male for “Nite And Day” in 1988.March 19, 2012 at 11:52 am #380109
“As We Lay” by Shirley Murdock in 1986March 19, 2012 at 1:30 pm #380110
Sadly, I don’t think Phyllis Hyman was ever nominated for a Grammy in the ’80s or ’90s. She should’ve gotten at least one, for “Old Friend.”
Miki Howard got a nod in the ’90s but was snubbed for “Love Under New Management.”March 19, 2012 at 4:43 pm #380111
Diana Ross in 1980 for UPSIDE DOWN
Diana Ross in 1979 for TOUCH ME IN THE MORNING
Diana Ross in 1972 for AINT NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH
Diana Ross in 1973 for REACH OUT AND TOUCH
Diana Ross in 1981 for THE BOSS
Diana Ross and Lionel Richie in 1984 for ENDLESS LOVEMarch 19, 2012 at 5:14 pm #380112

”As We Lay” by Shirley Murdock in 1986
As We Lay is a very good mention. It is a shame that Kelly Price received the nomination for As We Lay when Shirley’s version was more deserving of the nomination.
I will also add the following:
Evelyn Champagne King for R&B Female for Love Come Down (1982) and I’m In Love (1981).
Atlantic Starr for R&B Duo or Group for Secret Lovers in 1986 and Always in 1987.
Cherelle & Alexander O’Neal for R&B Duo or Group in 1986 for Saturday Love. I can’t believe they nominated the horrendous Super Bowl Shuffle by the Bears in R&B Duo or Group for 1986.March 24, 2012 at 7:13 pm #380114
Gladys Knight for License To Kill for R&B Female in 1989
Gladys Knight & The Pips for Save the Overtime or You’re Number One In My Book for R&B Duo or Group in 1983
Patti LaBelle for If Only You Knew for R&B Female in 1984.April 24, 2012 at 10:36 pm #380115
What about Gregory Abbott’s “Shake You Down” in R&B Male?
I wonder if that was foolishly submitted to Pop Male since it was a huge Pop radio hit.
