Pink was the last winner of the Rock Female category for Trouble.  Who do you think would have been nominated in this category if they never stopped this category?

I definitely think that Pink’s So What and U & Ur Hand Tonight would have been nominated and would have had a great chance of winning.  Does anyone think that Since You’ve Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson would have nominated in this category?

“Fighter” by Christina Aguilera would have been a worthy winner.

Well, that list is enough to make me glad they got rid of the category.

Agreed. It’ll just end up as another category for all the fanboys here to fight over.

Lol @ some of those selections.   I would see people like P!nk, Alanis Morrissette, Sheryl Crow, Florence & Machine (if eligible), Tori Amos, Melissa Etheridge, Avril Lavigne, and Bjork maybe getting the nomination.

LOL, I was just being serious with P!nk, Florence, and Kelly.
I could have seen P!nk being the big winner if this category continued, for all her recent work. Alanis could have been a possible contender for her cover of “Crazy”

    I miss this category!

I’m sure artists like Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Liz Phair, Stevie Nicks, Fiona Apple, Melissa Etherdige, Kelly Clarkson & Sheryl Crow (not that she needs any more) would have garnered more nominations in the last few years had they not eliminated this category.

For the last few years here are some songs that we could have seen nominated in this category:

Alanis Morissette – Eight Easy Steps / Crazy / Underneath / In Praise of the Vulnerable Man
Tori Amos – Sweet The Sting / Big Wheel / Bouncing Off Clouds / Welcome To England
PJ Harvey – When Under Ether / Black Hearted Love / The Words That Maketh Murder
Liz Phair – Everything To Me
Stevie Nicks – Secret Love / For What It’s Worth
Fiona Apple – Parting Gift / O Sailor / Get Him Back / Not About Love
Melissa Etheridge – Refugee / I Run For Life / I Need To Wake Up / Message To Myself / Fearless Love
    Kelly Clarkson – Never Again
Sheryl Crow – Real Gone / Love Is Free

I think that Pink would have become the Tina Turner and Pat Benator of this category.

I agree on that but I still think the category shouldn’t had been eliminated in 2004… There were lots of worthy nods/wins from 2004 to 2010:

    • Fiona Apple’s songs from “Extraordinary Machine” (2005, 2006)
    • Tori Amos: “Big Wheel” (2008), “Welcome to England” (2009)
    • Melissa Etheridge: “Breathe” (2005, instead of Rock Solo), “I Need to Wake Up” (2007),  “Fearless Love” (2010)
    • PJ Harvey’s songs from “White Chalk” (2008), “Black Hearted Love” (2010)
    • Florence and the Machine “Dog Days Are Over” (2010)
    • Courtney Love “Mono” (2005)
    • Feist “Mushaboom” (2007)
    • KT Tunstall “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” (2007, instead of Pop Female)
    • Beth Orton “Conceived” (2007)
    • Ani DiFranco “Good Luck” (2009)

There are also plenty of independent and foreign solo singers (mainly British) that could still be elegible in this category had the Academy really considered non-mainstream acts worthy of a nomination: Jennifer Knapp, Kate Nash, Heather Nova, Rachael Yamagata, Tracy Bonham, Esthero, Jem, Julie Ritter,  Victoria Williams, Ladyhawk, Anouk, Hanna Pakarinen… Well that’s just a few I can name right now. You may only know them if you’re into indie rock female singers.

I always thought Michelle Branch should have nodded for Female Rock for her songs “Everywhere” and “Breathe”

Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” was deservely nominated in Pop. “Behind These Hazel Eyes” should have nominated.
