i wonder if Do I Wanna Know? by Arctic Monkeys is eligible.

Paul Grein had their album, AM, listed as submitted last year. and the album was released around the same time as this song…
stil, that can mean nothing as, for example, Arcade Fire released Reflektor (song) same day as the video for this song, and only submitted the video…

there are not many good rock contenders & this one would be very worthy!
EDIT: actually, Unbelievers by Vampire Weekend, I Sat By the Ocean by Queens Of the Stone Age & Wait For Me by Kings Of Leon ARE ALL ELIGIBLE, so those would be a really fine nominees!

If lack of a strong field puts a Grammy in Queens of the Stone Age’s hand, I’d be fine with it.  I think The Black Keys are probably going to take Rock Album though.

I’d love Vampire Weekend to get their first nomination for a song, but sadly I don’t see that happening.

I think Jack White will be the big winner in rock this year. Also, I don’t think Ray LaMontagne will go Folk with his album Supernova. It’s absolutely a Rock record.

And I’ll say it again, the Alternative Music category needs a SONG category!!!

    Best Rock Album
    Lazaretto, Jack White
    Turn Blue, The Black Keys
Hypnotic Eye, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
    Ghost Stories, Coldplay
    Supernova, Ray LaMontagne

    Best Rock Song

    “Blue Moon”- Beck
    “Reflektor” – Arcade Fire
    “Fever”- The Black Keys
    “Lazaretto” – Jack White
“American Dream Plan B”/”U Get Me High”/”Red River” – Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

    Best Rock Performance
    “Invisible”- U2
    “Fever” – The Black Keys
“West Coast” – Lana Del Rey
    “Lazaretto” – Jack White
    “Supernova” – Ray Lamontagne

    Best Alternative Music Album

    Reflektor, Arcade Fire

    Morning Phase, Beck
    After the Disco, Broken Bells
    St. Vincent, St. Vincent

    Ultraviolence, Lana Del Rey

I think Jack White has Rock Album in the bag. Turn Blue didn’t do much of anything this year and it’s a clear step down from El Camino.

But then again, Jack White has been talking a lot of trash recently…

The Black Keys will absolutely still get nominated, even if Turn Blue is no El Camino. Jack White’s shit talking won’t really impact his chance at the Grammy’s – he’s always been a cocky, narcissistic bastard who makes great music!

Also, I’m so torn on Coldplay at the Grammys this year. They released a POP album, but have never been nominated in Pop Vocal before. Their previous effort, Mylo Xyloto, was like a Rock/Pop hybrid, but was nominated in Rock (“Paradise” got a Pop Duo/Group nod though)

Ghost Stories is probably their worst album to date. I’m a huge fan but even I wouldn’t be surprised if they got completely shut out.

    Alternative Album:

    Arcade Fire, Reflektor
    FKA Twigs, LP1
    Lana Del Rey, Ultraviolence
Death From Above 1979, The Physical World
    St Vincent, St Vincent

Agreed. The only noms I can see for them are Best Pop Duo/Group for “A Sky Full Of Stars” & Best Short Form Music Video for “Magic” really. Ghost Stories was ok, it just wasn’t one of their more eventful albums. Kinda came and went.

Considering Dan Auerbah invovlement in Ultraviolence, I have a feeling that one will replace the other. Dan produced the entire album.

either Turn Blue will ruin Ultraviolence’s chances of getting nominated or the other way round. Ultraviolence replacing The Black Keys album.

Why they replace each other? Turn Blue will be in Rock Album and UV will be in either Pop Vocal Album or Alternative Album.

Yeah I don’t really see Ultraviolence in Rock, but as discussed in other threads, it’s ultimately up to her label to place her where they see fit. It’d be nice to see Dan Auerbach’s work in more than 1 category!

And do you all really think Weezer will get Grammy attention for their supposed ‘comeback’ album? They haven’t received a nomination since “Pork and Beans” in 2009 for Short Form Music Video (which they won), and before that their sole nomination was for Best Rock Song for “Beverly Hills” in 2006. Their last 2 albums in 2009 and 2010 were huge disappointments for fans and critics alike.

Everything Will Be Alright in the End could be a hit, and their first 2 singles (“Back to the Shack” and “Cleopatra” are pretty great). I’d be pleasantly surprised if they got nominated.

The album won’t be released until October, so it’s out for this year’s cycle.  I doubt either of the first two songs will get nominated for Rock Performance or Rock Song either – they haven’t made much of an impact at all yet, even though I think “Cleopatra” is one of the best singles they’ve released since the mid-2000s.  Their best shot is probably Rock Album in 2016.

Oh, I was under the impression that their album was being released in September but I guess they changed the date to 10/7. Interesting.

And yes, I agree, “Cleopatra” is a great, classic Weezer song. Big fan.
