Since everybody’s been talking about Snubs for the past weeks. I decided to create mine… This time in the Rock and Alternative categories

    The Smashing Pumpkins:
    – First of all they deserved AOTY for Mellon Collide… over Celine Dion, indeed all the other nominees were better than Celine’s.
    – Winning Best Rock Group for “1979” over Blues Traveler
    – A Best Rock Group and Best Rock Song nomination for “Disarm” in 1995 and “Perfect” in 1999.
    – A Best Hard Rock nomination for “The Everlasting Gaze” in 2000.

    Tori Amos:
Little Earthquakes and Scarlet’s Walk getting Best Alternative Music Album
    – “God” for Best Female Rock Performance

    Nirvana
    – Best Hard Rock Performance win for “Smells Like Teen Spirit”
    – Best Rock Group for “About A Girl”, “Come As You Are”
    – Best Hard Rock nod for “Lithium”, “Rape Me”, “You Know You’re Right”

    Other Best Rock Group snubs:
    – Bush “Glycerine”
    – No Doubt “Just A Girl”
    – Sublime “What I Got”
    – Incubus “Stellar”
    – Incubus “Drive”
    – Fall Out Boy “Sugar, We’re Going Down”
    – Eve 6 “Inside Out”
    – Puddle of Mudd “Blurry”

That’s all I can think of right now… Be back with more later.. hehe

    Alternative Album snubs:
    Jeff Buckley, “Grace”
The Flaming Lips, “The Soft Bulletin”
    Death Cab For Cutie, “Transatlanticism”
    The Radio Dept., “Lesser Matters”
    Sufjan Stevens, “Illinois”
    M.I.A., “Arular”, “Kala”
Beck, “The Information” (very underrated album imo. Modern Guilt could have been snubbed)
    Gorillaz, “Plastic Beach”
    Grizzly Bear “Veckatimest”
    Animal Collective, “Merriweather Post Pavillion”

    to name a few.

Man, the Grammys should be ashamed of what you just posted. The only snub I was really aware of from your list was Veckatimest, but I am shocked and disappointed to see a lot of those titles weren’t nominated for Alternative Music Album. 🙁

I have always felt that Jumpin’ Jack Flash by Aretha Franklin should not have been nominated for R&B Female in 1987, but should have been nominated for Rock Female.

Well, the Grammys suck. The Alternative field is no exception. What I noticed however is that redemption nominations for lesser releases seem to be the thing here.
Death Cab didn’t get in for Transatlanticism, but has become a perennial nominee by now, regardless of the quality of their work. The Flaming Lips recieved a couple of nods after being ignored for Bulletin and Yoshimi. My Morning Jacket got nods for their latest albums, which recieved mixed reviews, while Z a very well recieved release went unnoticed by the Grammys.
Maybe if the upcoming albums by Grizzlybear and Animal Collective suck, their chances of recieving Grammy nominations increase.
