I was recently listening to Jesse J’s Burnin Up and thought to myself damn this is such a hot track. How was this not huge?!?! Then I got to thinking about a lot of others that to me SCREAMED hit but barely made it on the Hot 100.

A few off the top of my head…

Carly Rae Jepsen – Tonight I’m Getting Over You feat. Nicki Minaj

    Britney Spears – Outrageous

Christina Aguilera – You Lost Me

    OneRepublic – Feel Again

    Robyn – Call Your Girlfriend

    Tegan and Sara – Closer

    Leona Lewis – Collide

Lupe Fiasco – Old School Love feat. Ed Sheeran

    Avril Lavigne – Smile

Ashlee Simpson – Little Miss Obsessive

    P!NK – Heartbreaker

Alicia Keys – Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart

    Ke$ha – Crazy Kids

    Kelis – Accapella

    Pussycat Dolls – Hush Hush

    Jordin Sparks – SOS

    TaioCruz – Fast Car

    Taylor Swift – Sparks Fly

    Christina Aguilera, “Not Myself Tonight”
    Christina Aguilera, “You Lost Me”
    Christina Aguilera, “Your Body”
Christina Aguilera & Blake Shelton, “Just A Fool”
Christina Aguilera & Redman, “Dirrty” (flopped in the US; major hit overseas)

It didn’t really “flop” but I always thought “When You Believe” by Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston would have easily been a #1 smash. It didn’t even make the Top 10.

I am sure I’ll think of more.

“XO” is a tailor made chart topper.

“Tonight I’m Getting Over You” – Carly Rae Jepsen
“Made in the USA” – Demi Lovato

Another good idea for a thread…songs that would have been smashes but were never released as official singles. One recent song that comes to mind is “Gypsy” from Lady Gaga’s “ARTPOP.”

Gucci I can’t remember how hard Dirrty flopped but I sure as hell remember playing the shit out of that. And XO was totally another massive FAIL by America.

From this list I agree with Alicia Keys and Try Sleeping, that song should’ve been big. But the album was such a disappointment when it came out and that awful first single that I think people just saw the whole thing as a flop and didn’t care for any future singles.

Your Body could’ve been a hit but Christina decided not to care about it. I said before, I’ll say it again, how was that song not performed on The Voice? Instead going with the crappy Blake/CeeLo duets?

To me every song from my most favorite singer James Otto should have been a smash, but they weren’t except for his song named “Just Got Started Lovin’ You”.

God bless you and him always!!!

    Holly

P.S. The following is his current history.

    1.) “The Ball”-#45
    2.) “Long Way Down”-didn’t chart
    3.) “Days Of Our Lives”-#33
4.) “Sunday Morning And Saturday Night”-#58
5.) “Just Got Started Lovin’ You”-#1
    6.) “For You”-#39
7.) “These Are The Good Ole Days”-#36
8.) “Since You Brought It Up”-#37
    9.) “Groovy Little Summer Song”-#26
    10.) “Soldiers And Jesus”-#34
11.) “Somewhere Tonight”-has not charted yet

Tonight I’m Getting Over You would have been a #1 single if people hadn’t already decided that Carly Rae Jepsen should be a one-hit wonder.

I agree XO should’ve been a huge hit and that it feels like one.

    I also think it’s weird “I’m a Slave 4 U” didn’t get to #1.

And I know the public had massively dropped their support for them after Geri left the group, but I think it’s weird how Goodbye and Holler weren’t big hits in most markets. Those are songs begging to be big hits, even if they were coming from the Spice Girls after the popularity decline.

“4th of July (Fireworks)” & “Brave” should have been massive hits for Kelis. “Fleshtone” remains one of the best dance album of the decade. Sorely underrated.

    The Roots, “You Got Me”
Robyn, “With Every Heartbeat” (was hit in other parts of the world)

    Phoenix, “Entertainment” & “1901”

    Kelis, “Acapella”

    Incubus, “Anna Molly”

    Kacey Musgraves, “Merry Go ‘Round”

    Passion Pit, “Take A Walk”
    Muse, “Madness”

Usher, “Dive” & “Climax” (as far as I am concerned both songs should have been hot 100 chart toppers)

Chris Cornell, “You Know My Name” (a FAR better song compared to “Skyfall”)

Maxwell, Pretty Wings” (again, should’ve topped the hot 100)
Jazmine Sullivan, “Need U Bad,” “Bust Your Windows” & “Lion, Tigers and Bears”

^^^ That song from Kacey Musgraves that you name here made the top ten. I didn’t realize that cracking the top ten was considered a flop.

    God bless you always!!!
