There have been a lot of rumors about David Bowie. Some thought he was dying, some thought he had retired and didn’t want anything to do with music anymore.

But today, there was the release of a new official website, with the announcement of new single and video “Where Are We Now?” today, and the the tracklist of the first new album titled “The Next Day”: http://www.davidbowie.com/news/new-website-album-single-and-video-birthday-boy-47841

And for the ones interested, here’s the new single and video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=FOyDTy9DtHQ

Where is
    David Bowie?

New Single
    and Pre-Order
of First New Album in 10 Years Exclusively Launching on the iTunes Store Today

New
York, NY–January 8, 2013–In the early morning hours of Tuesday the 8th
January, Iso/Columbia Records released a new single by David Bowie titled
‘Where Are We Now?’ exclusively launching in the iTunes Store in 119 countries.
David Bowie’s first new album in ten years and his 30th studio recording, THE
NEXT DAY is also available as a pre-order on iTunes with a wide release
scheduled for March. January the 8th is of course David Bowie’s birthday, a
timely moment for such a treasure to appear as if out of nowhere.

Throwing
shadows and avoiding the industry treadmill is very David Bowie despite his
extraordinary track record that includes album sales in excess of 130 million
not to mention his massive contributions in the area of art, fashion, style,
sexual exploration and social commentary. It goes without saying that he has
sold out stadiums and broken ticket records throughout the world during this
    most influential of careers.

In recent years radio silence has been broken
only by endless speculation, rumor and wishful thinking ….a new record…who
would have ever thought it, who’d have ever dreamed it! After all David is the
kind of artist who writes and performs what he wants when he wants…when he
has something to say as opposed to something to sell. Today he definitely has
    something to say.

Produced by long term collaborator Tony Visconti,
‘Where Are We Now?’ was written by Bowie, and was recorded in New York. The
single is accompanied by a haunting video directed by Tony Oursler which harks
back to David’s time in Berlin. He is seen looking in on footage of the auto
repair shop beneath the apartment he lived in along with stark images of the
city at the time and a lyric constantly raising the question Where Are We Now?

”The
moment you know, you know you know” resonates from the new single’s lyric.
Now we all know…David Bowie has been in the recording studio…just when we
    least expected it!!

    New
David Bowie Album Rocks, Is Mix of “Classic and Innovative”,
    According to Producer

    Tony Visconti: “It’s
    quite a rock album”

To the surprise of just about
    everyone,
    David Bowie
    will
    release a new
    album, The Next Day
, in March. Now, the record’s
producer Tony Visconti has shared some details about the sound of the album, as
well as the recording process, with
    BBC News.

    According to Visconti, The
    Next Day
is “quite a rock album” with a mix of “classic
Bowie” and “innovative Bowie,” written over the past two years.
He told the BBC he was surprised to see the downcast “Where Are
    We Now?”
    as the first single:

It’s maybe the only track on the
album that goes this much inward for him. It’s quite a rock album, the rest of
the songs. I thought to myself: ‘Why is David coming out with this very slow,
albeit beautiful, ballad? Why is he doing this? He should be coming out with a
bang.’ But he is a master of his own life. I think this was a very wise move,
to link up the past with the future, and I think the next thing you hear from
him is going to be quite different.

    Visconti said that during the
making of the album, Bowie was “smiling all the time, happy to be back in
the studio.” He said Bowie is “a very healthy man, I can assure
you,” countering rumors that Bowie’s time away from the spotlight was due
    to health reasons.

This made my day when I heard it. Everything at once, new single, video and album release date with artwork. He kept the secret well. From time to time I’d check on Bowie news but never get and real info on what he was up to or even half alive. Where Are We Now is a fantastic trip.

Wow! This is quite the comeback! Nice that’s doing this well in iTunes. And the lead single is so gorgeous! One of his best picks for single post-“Scary Monsters”. Everything so far leads me to believe this will be a great year for Bowie. And I hope so much for a tour! he is one of my dream concerts, and I hope I get the chance.

He’s off to an amazing start. The lead single was a big shot in the arm for him. It debuted at #6 on the UK singles chart giving him his first top 10 hit since Jump They Say 20 years ago.

Tony Visconti did and interview with Rolling Stone and said Bowie won’t be touring but might do a show here or there if he feels like it. It’s just nice to have him doing music again.

The new Bowie is currently available for streaming to anyone interested: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/28/the-next-day-david-bowie_n_2786186.html

It has also leaked, and you should be able to find the iTunes rip quite easily.

He also has a new video out called “Stars (Are Out Tonight)”, starring Tilda Swinton! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gH7dMBcg-gE

And finally, “The Next Day” has a 94 on Metacritic from 7 critics. This has been one very great early 2013 for Bowie!

Since “Jump They Say” peaked at #9 in the UK, “Where Are We Now?” becomes his highest-charting single since “Absolute Beginners” hit #2 in 1986 (27 years ago).

    http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/1551810/david-bowie-vs-bon-jovi-for-no-1-on-next-weeks-billboard-200

According to Billboard magazine, Bowie’s The Next Day is neck and neck with Bon Jovi’s What About Now for next week’s #1 album, each expected to sell around 90,000 copies based on first day sales.

If Bowie hits #1, it will be his first album to top the Billboard 200, which would bode very well for him in the Grammy race.

However, even if Bowie has to settle for the #2 position, it will still be the highest-charting album of his career. His current highest charting is Station to Station, which peaked at #3 in 1976.

The Next Day will also be Bowie’s first Top 10 album since Let’s Dance hit #4 in 1983. Let’s Dance was Bowie’s only album ever nominated for at the Grammys for Album of the Year (where it lost to Michael Jackson’s Thriller).

This is Bowie’s highest debut ever on the Billboard album chart. It’s awesome that his comeback has been so huge. This will make his legendary status even greater.

I don’t know where Bon Jovi was getting there sales from. Bowie was and still is kicking there asses on Amazon and iTunes. The Next Day is holding up well and remains at #2 on Amazon.
