I figured this should probably be started soon. Lorde is #3 with “Royals” on the Billboard Hot 100, just put out her next single “Team” and she’s got one of the fall’s most hotly anticipated albums, “Pure Heroine” dropping on September 30th.

I caught onto her in early July and instantly fell in love. “The Love Club” EP is definitely worth a listen, as is the single “Tennis Court” with B-side “Swingin Party.” And it’s no shock, but the newest song “Team” is another fantastic song to add to her collection. This is one album I’m getting more and more excited for. Thoughts? Discuss.

I’m kind of over being told to throw my hands up in the air, so there” became iconic the minute it was sung. I expect this girl to have enormous success.

She is just what pop music needed.

That line does get stuck in your head, and she seems to be getting a lot of praise for it.

I like Lorde. I didn’t want to warm up to her initially, because I thought she might be a fluke. Now, I think she is starting to shape up to be the real deal. Team is great. And the perspective she has of being a teenager is rare in pop music, at least today. It’s always about being the underdog in love with a guy, or cheap self-esteem anthems. She is the only one that captures teenage boredom and lack of perspective well right now. Hope the album doesn’t disappoint, but if it does, we at least got “Team” out of it

“Tennis Court” is okay, I warmed up to “Royals”, though I still don’t love it, but “Team” is dynamite. I’m looking forward to her debut. She’s fresh and exciting, and I like that she’s offering something different. I’ll take her over the overrated Lana Del Rey any day.

    Excellent songwriting specially for a 16 year-old.

I just hope that she doesn’t turn into a Shakira when she is 25.

Great pop album all around; it’s definitely one of the most mature pop albums this in recent years thematically, which is saying something as most of the songs were written by a 16-year old (likely 15-year old at the time for many of the songs).  “Ribs” is easily my favorite track, with “Team”, “Tennis Court”, and “400 Lux” being other standouts.  I know she’s gaining noteriety for “Royals”, but I am interested in seeing if any of her other singles are able to catch on on the radio and increase the longevity of album sales.  “Tennis Court” probably is the most radio-friendly, but I am hoping people continue to take notice of how strong the album is, even if it isn’t the typical Top 40 fare. s

I’m very impressed by Pure Heroine. It’s a great pop album with beautiful lyrics and production throughout. My favorite song is “Ribs” as well- I’m in love with it. I really hope Lorde continues to be successful. I think she has an excellent chance at getting into BNA/SOTY/Pop Solo/Pop Album.

I’ve only listened all the way through once, but loving what I’ve heard. Gotta listen a bit more before I can give a more comprehensive review.

People were hyping her too much in the beginning. Tennis Court is…. okay, and didn’t warrant the praise she was getting. With Royals it changed. The song is actually pretty interesting and complex, even though The Love Club EP was overall nothing all that special.
The album however proved that Lorde is indeed an artist to watch. There’s a whole lot of artistry involved in this record which all pseudo-artistic pop bitches lack, and would probably kill for.
My favorite track of Pure Heroine is probably the closing track A World Alone, which satisfies the current trend of moody dream pop, but still tackles the genre from a distinct perspective.

Finally given this album enough spins to say that I love it. It’s the best debut album of the year (though not the Grammy year, as that would be Kendrick Lamar’s album). If this were nominated for AOTY, I’d be okay with that. In the context of the album, and having listened to it on repeat so it loops, “Tennis Court” and “Royals” grew on me greatly. “Team” is still awesome, but even with those three strong tracks, they are not the best on the album. The best songs for me are “Ribs” (brilliant, and I can already imagine a show like ‘Girls’ using this song) and “A World Alone”. “White Teeth Teens”, “Glory and Gore” and “Still Sane” are also great. In fact, there are honestly no bad or weak tracks. The whole thing flows and is cohesive and fresh. Lorde had better get a BNA nomination; she’s new, she’s fresh, she has a unique sound and perspective in her lyrics, and she’s incredibly talented, especially for her age. I’d give the album an ‘A-‘ or ‘9/10’.

Five Favorite Tracks: “Ribs”, “A World Alone”, “Team”, “White Teeth Teens”, and “Glory and Gore”.

Just heard “Team” and it’s so good. Much better than “Royals.” Now I’m starting to get the build-up with this girl.
