M.I.A.’s 4th album ‘Matangi’ drops this Tuesday (Nov. 5th), but you can stream her whole album now via her VEVO account right HERE.
I’ve listened to the full thing at least 3 times from start to finish now, and I think this is her best album. ‘MAYA” was an interesting effort, but I felt it was the weakest of her first three albums, so I was extremely pleased to hear that she was back in fine form with her latest.
The production on this album is INCREDIBLE. Also, most of her rhymes are on point, and the whole thing just flows perfectly from start to finish. I’m incredibly impressed. “Exodus”/”Sexodus” might be the best songs she’s ever done. Other early standouts are “Y.A.L.A.”, “Warriors”, “Double Bubble Trouble”, “Bring The Noise”, “Bad Girls”, and “Only 1 U”.
Has anyone else listened to this yet? I think it’s a great companion piece to Kanye’s ‘Yeezus’, and along with that album, it’s my favorite of 2013.November 3, 2013 at 8:54 am #393383
I really like Matangi. I think it’s her best album besides Kala and it’s definitely making my top 10 of 2013. I just saw M.I.A. perform at Terminal 5 in NYC and she was AMAZING. Such a bad ass.November 3, 2013 at 9:54 am #393384

Ooooo, that sounds awesome! As for ‘Matangi’, I love it more and more with each listen. I’m gonna re-listen to ‘Kala’ (my previous favorite of her albums), but I think I might like ‘Matangi’ a bit more. Speaking of which, the title track reminds me somewhat of “Boyz”.November 3, 2013 at 1:57 pm #393385
This is my favorite outing of hers after Kala. Everything she’s delivered has been at least good. MAYA may be her weakest outing, but it’s still engaging and well made. It just came out at a time when people where ready to check the MIA hype. The radio success of “Paper Planes” and the whole spat she had with the New York Times reporter didn’t help.November 3, 2013 at 5:54 pm #393386
“Exodus”/”Sexodus” is such an amazing song, I love it. Another that grew on me massively and is now one of my favorites is “Know It Ain’t Right”. Both are kind of R&B-ish, very urban, but electric as well… Awesome songs, awesome album. Man, she deserves so much success with this album.November 4, 2013 at 5:26 pm #393387May 18, 2014 at 12:01 am #393388

It would make my summer if it did! I hope you’re right.
