I couldn’t find another thread for him anywhere, so if there was one already, I apologize.
I stopped watching ‘American Idol’ after Lee DeWyze (or however it’s spelled) won, so I knew next to nothing about Phillip Phillips. However, I’ve heard his song “Home” without even knowing it was him (in trailers, commercials, during the Olympics) and it’s a FANTASTIC song. One of the best songs this year. I was actually shocked to learn it was him (I always thought it was by some new band or something).
With this song, Phillips deserves recognition in SOTY and especially ROTY, and now I’m eagerly anticipating his debut album. His sound is folksy/bluesy pop, in the same vein as Mumford and Sons. I’m really, REALLY digging this song and I’m glad it’s become a success. If his debut (rumored to be released in November/December this year) can live up to this first single, we have a serious best new artist to watch out for next year.
Here’s the video for “Home”.September 4, 2012 at 5:47 pm #383890
This guy seems to have a bright future, I agree that ‘Home’ deserves Grammy recognition… totally here for his debut LP.September 4, 2012 at 5:50 pm #383891
I really liked this song, and then it got boring.September 4, 2012 at 6:23 pm #383892
The song is one of the best ones to come out of Idol in years, or maybe the best in general since all of the winners songs have been pretty lame. I hope he goes a long way.September 4, 2012 at 6:28 pm #383893
^I agree… For a debut ‘Idol” song, it’s by FAR the best.September 4, 2012 at 7:19 pm #383894
Agreed. No other debut Idol single comes close to this one.September 19, 2012 at 5:41 pm #383895
I´m not kidding when I say its one of my favorite songs of the entire year, its just so good and very munford and sons who I LOVE but I really dont see it going all the way into the grammys, it seriously should but as far as I know, unles you are like kelly clarksonor carrie underwood (with FEW other exceptions), idol winners just dont do good at the grammys. But wouldnt that just be amazing…September 19, 2012 at 5:43 pm #383896
Does anyone have news on what he´s doing? is an album coming “soon” or something?October 14, 2012 at 1:48 pm #383897

Quite busy indeed!
For Phillips, “Home” proved to be an unexpected hit, but he needs to release another single fast if he wants to sell albums come Nov. 19th. “Home” peaked long ago, it’s been high time for single #2.October 14, 2012 at 10:26 pm #383900
“Home” sucks. This album is guaranteed to flop. Can we say D.O.A.?October 14, 2012 at 11:13 pm #383901
The problem with him is he’s not very original. I smell a flop ala Lee Dewyze.
AI better not pick another WGWG.October 24, 2012 at 1:54 pm #383902
Phillip Phillips’ “Home” tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. This marks the first time that an American Idol winner’s “coronation song” has sold 2 million copies. The previous best-seller among coronation songs was David Cook’s “The Time Of My Life,” which has sold 1,463,000 copies.
The success of “Home” bodes well for Phillips’ first studio album, The World From The Side Of The Moon, which is due Nov. 19. It’s vying to become the fourth debut album by an Idol winner to enter TheBillboard 200 at #1, following Clarkson’s Thankful, Studdard’sSoulful and McCreery’s Clear As Day.January 21, 2013 at 10:28 am #383903

Ha I just came in here to comment on how suprised I am with this album. Any words you would like to take back? It’s marching towards platinum status and “Home” refuses to die on the iTunes chart. With proper promotion of a second single this will sail past one million–something established artists are failing to do. FYI, this was released the same week as Rihanna’s latest and his album has charted higher than hers the last several weeks.
Having said all this, I didn’t catch his season of Idol so I don’t know much about him other than he’s a lucky kid that “Home” is in the style of what’s really “in” at the moment. Of course, he’s a “light” version of what’s breaking through, but that hasn’t been a factor yet.
