Santigold is back with some FIRE! Her current single “Disparate Youth” is excellent, and her new album ‘Master of My Make-Believe’ is getting great reviews. I’m picking up this album on Tuesday for sure. Here are a few tracks from her sophomore effort below:
“Big Mouth” (very early M.I.A.-ish)
“Look At These Hoes” (FIRE!! )

ahhh I love Santigold. “Disparate Youth” is so great. Does anyone else think that she could pull off a BNA nomination? She has never been nominated and could get in for her 2nd album like Bon Iver. I hope the critical success is overwhelming.
Lovin Santigold, Gaga and Lana in the top 5April 28, 2012 at 11:07 am #381340
I loved Santi’s debut, and listening to these new tracks has me pumped for this new album. I honestly feel that she and M.I.A. are really pushing music forward.May 1, 2012 at 1:30 pm #381341
I just listened to ‘Master of My Make-Believe’ and I love it. I can say with certainty that it’s better than her debut and more cohesive. At times she evokes Karen O and M.I.A. in her line delivery, but that’s absolutely a compliment. I guess you really are as good as the company you keep. I’ll have a full review soon, but as of right now I’m totally digging “Disparate Youth”, “Go!”, “This Isn’t Our Parade”, “Freak Like Me”, and “Look at These Hoes”. The production throughout is excellent.May 1, 2012 at 2:08 pm #381342
I actually I don’t like when she tries to be M.I.A. and I think she should focus more on her poppy rocky side. But “The Riot’s Gone” is pretty great. I’m just a bit underwhelmed by this album (that took 4 years to get made!).May 1, 2012 at 3:13 pm #381343
^”The Riot’s Gone” is another great track. The only song to me that sounds blatantly M.I.A.-ish is album closer “Big Mouth”. I think it’s a great album. But as I do with all albums, I’ll give it a few more days and a few more listens.May 2, 2012 at 2:41 pm #381344
Wow I really like it. I’m surprised since I didn’t enjoy her debut all that much, apart from Creator. Too bad it couldn’t maintain its 84 metacritic score.
Faves by now are definitely “GO!” (amazing to dance to, though I got a headache from shaking my head that much) and “Look At These Hoes”. “The Riot’s Gone” is nice too.
Let’s see if M.I.A. can top it.May 2, 2012 at 8:27 pm #381345
I really like this album. It’s definitely a step in the right direction. Santigold’s voice is so unexpectedly beautiful on “This Isn’t Our Parade” and “The Riot’s Gone.” The latter is my favorite track. Hoepfully Santigold could get into Alt Album and BNA, though both are long shots
This album does leave me wanting to hear some new Karen O, MIA and Gwen Stefani…. let’s go ladies pull your shit together.May 2, 2012 at 8:47 pm #381346
^I agree about Santi’s voice… Her vocal inflections add newer levels of emotions to those tracks, it reminds me a bit of Karen O. And I also agree about some of my favorite ladies in music needing to get their butts in the recording studio! If this year saw the release of new material by MIA, Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Gwen Stefani (No Doubt), Nelly Furtado, and P!nk, and they all deliver strong work, I’d be in heaven.
