Hey guys, forgive me if this has already been discussed, but is there an eligibility reason why Chris Stapleton was not nominated for Best New Artist? Or was it a genuine snub? It seems inconceivable after the critical acclaim, success at the CMA and even a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year that he wouldn’t be the frontrunner for Best New Artist (much less not even nominated). Can anyone shed some light?

This was the case for Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and a few other artists that broke through after leaving their respective groups. This rule was put into place shortly after Lauryn Hill won Best New Artist, despite being a Grammy nominee/winner previously with The Fugees.

Thanks so much PoweR. This was a very thorough response and I really appreciate it.
