Defend your pick for Album of the Year here, pls! Let’s hear your thoughts on WHY you’re backing it now …September 3, 2014 at 9:36 pm #400949
This is gonna be Beyoncé vs Sam Smith. I’m gonna give Sam Smith the edge simply because he’s the “safe” choice they like to go with. I would love to see Beyoncé win but I feel like artist like her don’t win. Urban artist don’t do so well in AOTY.September 3, 2014 at 9:54 pm #400950
I will hurl If Sam Smith wins with a generic boring album. I’m going with Jack White with his album (can’t even begin to spell it). He’s probably one of the best artist ever and a American needs to reclaim AotY. After two losses he deserves it and no one will complain.September 3, 2014 at 10:40 pm #400951
I would really love 1000 Forms of Fear to win this but I don’t see it happening. It seems like Beyonce will be taking it. For the longest time I thought 25 by Adele would be it but seeing that it is September and she has 0 singles out it doesn’t look like it will be eligable. I would love for the pop rock masterpiece “Pop Psychology” by Neon Trees to get nominated but that is only in a perfect worldSeptember 3, 2014 at 10:41 pm #400952
Also when will the prediction center be open? After the September 30th deadline?September 3, 2014 at 11:49 pm #400953
Yeah, the only way I could see someone other than Beyonce or Sam Smith winning is if they go veteran, for someone like Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, who all had well-reviewed albums in the eligibility period, and Petty even went to #1. But it feels like Beyonce’s year… She’s an icon, she’s got to have an Album of the Year eventually, and it might as well be in this weak year. Sam Smith does seem more like a “safe” choice, and will certainly be nominated, but the momentum still seems to be with Beyonce.
Unless of course that Gaga-Bennett album is like, AMAZING…
I think nomination morning, Beyonce will be the frontrunner with 8 (Album, Record, Song, R&B Performance, R&B Song, Rap-Sung Collab, Short Form Video, Urban Album) and Smith will nab 6 (Album, Record, Song, New Artist, Pop Solo, Pop Album).September 3, 2014 at 11:55 pm #400954
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Reflektor – Arcade Fire
The Marshall Mathers LP2 – Eminem
1000 Forms of Fear – Sia
Beyonce – Beyonce
Lazaretto – Jack White
Sam Smith´s album will not be nominated like Adele’s first album, it has beautiful vocals, but the album itself is boring and depresing. Ed Sheeran could surprise. Beyonce is the frontrunner, but I have to say that the album is a mess, worse than I am… Sasha Fierce. Sia should win this.September 4, 2014 at 1:21 am #400955
– This is the obvious choice. Duh! NARAS worships her. She is due to win this award at some point.September 4, 2014 at 3:29 am #400956
what do you thinkSeptember 4, 2014 at 4:00 am #400957
Beyonce because she’s Beyonce. In a weak year for music Beyonce was the best of the best all over the news with this album that no one even thought she was making a new album. And I don’t think it’s a contest really who can beat the power of Beyonce at this point. Eminem would be the strongest bet but this has to be Beyonce. I don’t think it’s as hard as people say it is.September 4, 2014 at 4:46 am #400958
Beyoncé. Critical acclaim, novel release strategy/ industry game-changer, hit tour, VMA Michael Jackson Vanguard Winner, career peak, buzz, dueness, etc.September 4, 2014 at 5:33 am #400959
I honestly do not think Beyonce has AOTY in the bag…by any means.
Bottom line is to look at the history of winners in this category; urban artists/allbums do not do well at all, no matter who they are by. Yes, Beyonce is Beyonce, but I don’t think NARAS voters are going to go for the album when there will be safer, choices. I also don’t get the whole “Well she is Beyonce so she has to get AOTY eventually” when there are MANY artist of higher caliber and influence over the year who haven’t won AOTY.
I am thinking someone like Jack White or Sam Smith will likely win. I’m telling you—-do NOT ignore the history of this category.

I see Jack White winning before Sam Smith this year.
But yeah, this will & should go to Beyonce.September 4, 2014 at 9:58 am #400961
Beyoncé’s best shot at General Field recognition is actually in AOTY. There’s a clear urban bias in ROTY that won’t likely change with awarding “Drunk in Love,” and I don’t see voters ever rewarding her again in SOTY. This would be the place to reward the complete effort, and I think the full membership would be glad to pick her in this roster. The bigger hurdle will be the BRP if they decide to snub her for whatever reason(s).
