I was just thinking about this the other day. Which Artists who have transtioned into film have been the most successful?

Eminem and Beyonce immediatley come to mind. Eminem won an Oscar for “Lose Yourself” and Beyonce has been nominated for 2 Golden Globes. All of Beyonce’s Movies have grossed over 600 Million at the Box Office. “8 Mile” grossed 242 Million and Eminem was the star of the film.

Beyonce’s Movies did Gross that much.I have no reason to lie.

Anyway Whitney,Janet,Tupac,Will Smith and J.Lo ALL had at least one successful film during the 90’s.

Whitney with the ENORMOUS “The Bodyguard” (410 Million Box Office Gross,Highest selling Soundtrack of All Time,Soundtracl nominated for 2 Oscars) which at one point was one of the Top 10 Highest Grossing Films of all time, Waiting To Exhale, and The Preacher’s Wife did pretty good as well.

Janet got a breakthrough with “Poetic Justice” and was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Tupac has his string of hits “Poetic Justice”,”Juice”, Above The Rim”, and of course Will Smith, who was one of the highest paid Actors in Hollywood, his movies grossing over 1 Billion at the Box Office, and not to mention his TV Show “Fresh Prince” which ran for 6 Seasons and became one of the Top Sitcoms of the 90’s.

J.Lo has done some good films as well Selena,La Familia, Enough,Maid In Manhattan,The Wedding Planner

Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Cher, and Dolly Parton have been mentioned and all spring to mind, but as for the last 20 years:

It’s Will Smith all the way.  No one even comes close.

    Others who deserve mention:
    – Whitney Houston also deserves mention here.  She only headlined three films that were released theatrically.  “The Bodyguard” grossed $120 million and spawned one of the top 10 best selling albums of all time; “Waiting to Exhale” grossed nearly $80 million and spawned an 8 million selling soundtrack, and “The Preacher’s Wife” grossed $50 million and spawned the largest selling gospel album of all time.
    – Queen Latifah has arguably had more success with acting than music.
    – Jennifer Hudson (see above)
    – Eminem only made one film but it grossed over $100 million and won him an Oscar
    – Janet Jackson – “Poetic Justice,” “The Nutty Professor,” and “Why Did I Get Married?” were all solid grossers, but she wasn’t the name that drove any of them (Tupac, Eddie, and Tyler).
    – Beyonce has definitely made a name for herself but for every hit (“Austin Powers 3,” “Dreamgirls,” “Obsessed”) there has been at least one bomb (“The Fighting Temptations,” “The Pink Panther,” “Cadillac Records,”
