Every year many songs that deserve to hit number one never do. In this
thread list what songs you think should have but didnt reach the top of
the hot 100. A few from recent history that i think should have are:

    Kelly Clarkson “Breakaway”
    David Guetta Ft. Sia “Titanium”
    Missy Elliot “Work It”
    Britney Spears “Toxic”
    Kings of Leon “Use Somebody”
    Drake “Headlines”
    Usher “There Goes My baby”

    Adele, “Rumour Has It”
    Amy Winehouse, “Rehab”
Anyway, i’m only going to name those 2. I could probably write about 50, lol.

I didn’t realize that “Rehab” and “Bad Romance” hadn’t reached #1. Does anyone recall what songs were at the top that prevented them from reaching #1?

“Rehab”, I believe, only reached #9. And “Bad Romance” was kept from reaching the penthouse by the ginormous hit that was “Empire State of Mind”.

I’m pretty sure it was a bit of Empire State of Mind but more of Tik Tok who overstayed for 10 weeks at number 1.

To me, “I Just Got Started Loving You” from my most favorite should have gone all the way, especially when a pop copy of the song was made, but sadly it only got to #27.

God bless you and James always!!!

The longest running No. 2 singles should all go on the list:

“Waiting For a Girl Like You” – Foreigner (10 weeks)
“Work It” – Missy Elliott (10 weeks)
“I Love You Always Forever” – Donna Lewis (9 weeks)
“You’re Still the One” – Shania Twain (9 weeks)
“If I Ever Fall In Love” – Shai (8 weeks)
“Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” – Deborah Cox (8 weeks)
“Back at One” – Brian McKnight (8 weeks)

I’d also thrown in the songs that spend the longest in the Top 10 and Top 100 without hitting No. 1.

“I’m Yours” – Jason Mraz (75 weeks in Hot 100)
“How Do I Live” – Leann Rimes (69 weeks in Hot 100, 32 in Top 10)
“You Were Meant For Me / Foolish Games” – Jewel (65 in Hot 100, 28 in Top 10)
“Before He Cheats” – Carrie Underwood (64 weeks in Hot 100)
“You and Me” – Lifehouse (62 weeks in Hot 100)
“Need You Now” – Lady Antebellum (60 weeks)
“How To Save a Life” – The Fray (58 weeks)
    “Higher” – Creed (57 weeks)
“Use Somebody” – Kings of Leon (57 weeks)
    “I Don’t Wanna Wait” – Paula Cole (56 weeks)
“The Way You Love Me” – Faith Hill (56 weeks)
“Missing” – Everything But the Girl (55 weeks)
“Barely Breathing” – Duncan Sheik (55 weeks)

Then there are the songs that were No. 1 for the year without hitting No. 1 for a week:

“Wooly Bully” – Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs (1965)
    “Breathe” – Faith Hill (2000)
    “Hanging By a Moment” – Lifehouse (2001)

And lastly, the most important country song in the last 30 years (at least):

“Friends in Low Places” – Garth Brooks
