A lot of times, young people sweep up Grammys like Adele, Taylor Swift, and Sam Smith, who make music very comfortable to the years of the older recording academy demographic. Other times, an edgy young star will finally get their due after they age into an establishment artist. Foo Fighters weren’t huge Grammy darlings until the last eight years or so now that they’re relative veterans. And of course Robert Plant‘s recent “Raising Sand” sweep, and Beck taking Album of the Year last year. Daft Punk‘s win I think also qualifies.
I think we might see some general-field love in the future for some of the rap, hip-hop, and R&B acts who have been denied in recent years. If Kanye West doesn’t flame out (or isn’t busy being president, LOL), he could finally get some general-field love. Maybe Beyonce too; she’s got tons of Grammys and a Song of the Year win, but I think she can be considered due an Album of the Year win, especially after her loss last year.
I think Pink could win a GF award years from now. She’s someone who I think will always be recording, and I could see her releasing a really mature type of pop/rock album in the future that would showcase her vocals more.
Beyonce and Kanye aren’t overlooked at all they have tons of Grammys between them and are now way unappreciated. My pick would definitely be Pink she’ll has the voice to make an incredible album years from now.
I could see Ed Sheeran sweeping when he’s considered a veteran. Granted I am surprised he has yet to win; he seems like the kind of young artist the Recording Academy usually wants to reward.
This subject reminds me of how long it took my favorite band Diamond Rio to score their first and currently their only Grammy award. 20 years had to go by for them first and not only that, they had to go from the music that they were known for to a completely different format in order to get that Grammy. (shaking my head)
God bless you and the guys of the band always!!!
Go here to check out my most favorite singer James Otto!
Katy Perry would seem to fit this bill. I can imagine that like Madonna or Cher she’ll have to wait a number of years (or decades) to get a Grammy award. I think as she continues to mature her sound she’ll become a more respected artist as opposed to just somebody who sells a lot of albums and tickets.
