We don’t even have the official nominees yet, but we’re 2 months away from that and the show airs on September 9, so there should be at least a frontrunner, so Who’ll win the moonman for Video of the Year?

Thanks for starting this thread.  I was wondering the same question.

Let’s only discuss Video of the Year in this thread.  I will start a VMA thread eventually.

    These are also possible.

    Nicki Minaj’s “Starships”

Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” or “Part of Me”

    Maroon 5 & Wiz Khalifa’s “Payphone”

The past 5 years a female artist has won in this category.
    2007 – Rihanna f/ Jay-Z – “Umbrella”
2008 – Britney Spears – “Piece of Me”
2009 – Beyonce – “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”
    2010 – Lady Gaga – “Bad Romance”
    2011 – Katy Perry – “Firework”

    Will the trend stop?

Probably justin bieber, if it’s fan voted, Rihanna could edge him out if nominated

Hopefully gotye he has a strong and  a number 1 song…

Although there’s probably still about 3 weeks left of eligibility, I honestly can’t imagine any other video coming out that was better than “We Found Love,” both in terms of production AND chart impact.  And from what it seems, those are the two main things MTV takes into consideration when coming up with the nominees and winners for this award.  At the same time, though, RIhanna’s been kinda snubbed lately, so who knows…

I also wonder which videos will be nominated.  There’s always one or two nominees that come out of left field and are sometimes pleasant surprises…  Which would it be this year??  (If they nominate “Houdini” by Foster the People, for instance, I’d be a happy camper)

Look out for Azealia Banks, Lana Del Rey and Of Monsters and Men for left field choices

Although the theme of the song perfectly matched the video, but I was majorly disappointed by Adele’s Someone Like You. Should not be in the running for VOTY

Kelly Clarkson does not have the momentum the other five women had when they won Video of the Year.

What a yucky set of contenders.

If it’s fan-voted, Justin Bieber wins.  If not, I guess Gotye & Kimbra since their song is #1 right now.

Or Adele could win due to her massive success of 21.  I’m sure MTV wants to jump on that bandwagon.

But she have won previously right, i remember she is the third woman (i think) who win Best Female Video two years in a row. So i thin she has a shot. You should put Britney Spears criminal and Lana del rey blue jeans, i love both video

Adele or Nicki maybe. It’s never too late for MTV to join the Adele bandwagon especially after screwing her last year.

    VIDEO OF THE YEAR
    Adele, “Someone Like You”
    Justin Bieber, “Boyfriend”
Fun. (f/ Janelle Monae), “We Are Young”
Gotye (f/ Kimbra), “Somebody That I Used to Know”
Rihanna (f/ Calvin Harris), “We Found Love”

-Adele will get in on the strength of “21”‘s longevity, sales, and #1 singles.
-Justin Bieber could benefit from his first week sales
-Fun. & Gotye have the longest running #1s of the year
-Rihanna spent 10 weeks at #1 and the video recieved massive attention

SIDENOTE: This is a wack year for music videos.

I also think that the video that had most impact and praise was ‘We Found Love’, however I can’t thnk of Rihanna winning a second time the top VMAs category. As long as I know, Eminem is the only artist that has won twice this category, and he deserved so, he was the top artist of the last decade, and I don’t know if MTV will allow Rihanna tie Eminem’s record.

Not even Madonna, who is the most awarded artist by the network, has won twice this category, so I think that either Gotye or Fun. could win. But watch out!, if it’s fan-voted, Justin Bieber (if nominated) has it in the bag.
