Since receiving her first Grammy nomination in 2007 for Best Country Female Vocal Performance for “Kerosene”, Miranda Lambert has been nominated in that same category every year from 2007 to 2011 (except for 2009). She won the category in 2011 for “The House that Built Me”, where she was also nominated for Song of the Year for the same song.

However, she was never nominated for Best New Artist. The Grammy’s obviously love her, so why was she never nominated for BNA ?

Because she was submitted for Best New Artist in 2006, which was Carrie Underwood’s year.

I am guessing that the reason why Miranda never got nominated for Best New Artist is because she was a bit of a slow starter when she first started getting played on the radio. Go here for her radio history.

God bless you and her always!!!

P.S. Carrie Underwood getting all of the attention during Miranda’s first two years on the radio by being an AI winner didn’t help either which is just another reason why I don’t go for Carrie. (shaking my head)

I’ve been following Miranda since 2006, while everyone else was fawning over Carrie Underwood. Miranda’s first and second CD’s were pure country magic. That stuff is so raw and yet extremely accessable at the same time.

I agree that Miranda was a slow-burner. But I Think she’s on the path to be in the industry for many years. She seems to have control over her career, and the balls to do what she wants. Those are the kinds of artists who tend to remain relevant though the years.

It is not common for country artists to be nominated for BNA. Most of them have not.

There have only been 12 since 1980:

    Kentucky Headhunters

    Billy Ray Cyrus

    Leann Rimes

    Shania Twain

    Dixie Chicks

    Shelby Lynn
    Brad Paisley

    Gretchen Wilson

    Carrie Underwood

    Taylor Swift

    Lady Antebellum

    Zac Brown Band

Almost all of them had some level of success on pop radio/Hot 100.

Sugarland was also nominated in 2005, which is probably why she missed out on a nomination.
