Kendrick and Drake are the only two artist nominated for Rap Performance and Rap Song. Every since the categories were combined no artist have won without getting both noms. That’s why I’m axing Eminen out. This is between Drake and Kendrick but I think Kendrick will pull it off. He has the more recent song and it was played more on pop radio. The main reason why I’m predicting Kendrick to win both is because he’s coming off a highly publicized lost and Grammy performance. Am I going crazy or do you guys agree ?December 8, 2014 at 11:56 am #406900
I think he can take Best Rap Song. I still think Eminem will take Rap Performance. Eminem is a Grammy darling and has the most wins in the performance category. But Rap Song seems between Kendrick and Drake and I think K.dot will prevail as the songs lyrical content is powerful. But Kanye could spoil as he has a lot of wins in the Rap Song category.Marcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1)ParticipantDecember 8, 2014 at 11:59 am #406901
I hope he does. Not only is “I” the best song in the bunch, IMO, but he really deserves a Grammy after that ridiculous loss last year to Macklemore, a group that is everything but legitimate Rap. That loss pissed me off then and it still does because we knew that it was Kendrick’s only real chance to win a Grammy because we all knew he wasn’t winning AOTY given the history of Urban music in the category.December 8, 2014 at 1:19 pm #406902
The Rap field is always about popularity and commercial success. You can never rule against Eminem. Kendrick Lamar may get his due in Best Rap Song. Even there, he faces stiff competition from Kanye West. I just don’t know if Kendrick can win. Drake was finally able to win a Grammy when there were no Eminem, Jay-Z and Kanye West nominated. India.Arie was in a similar situation years ago and NARAS made amends with her.December 8, 2014 at 1:37 pm #406903
Best Rap Performance
Rap God – Eminem
Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
Probably the toughest rap category to predict this year. I think 3 out of the 5 nominees have a chance of winning. Here’s my ranking for the 3 though I wouldn’t be surprised if any of these artists win:
1. Bound 2 – Kanye West featuring Charlie Wilson
2. Tuesday – iLoveMakonen featuring Drake
3. The Monster – Eminem featuring Rihanna
Best Rap Song
I – Kendrick Lamar
Best Rap Album
The Marshall Mather LP 2 – EminemDecember 8, 2014 at 7:08 pm #406904
I think Eminem is taking home Rap/Sung & Rap Album. Lamar is probably taking home Rap Performance & Song.December 8, 2014 at 8:45 pm #406905
Eminem could take Rap Solo, Rap/Sung, and Album. He’s still a major force.
If I were to be biased, I’d want Kendrick to win both Performance and Song based on the quality of the song. It’s my personal favorite track nominated in each respective category.December 8, 2014 at 10:20 pm #406906
Remember when India.Arie’s luck was squelched when Alicia Keys dominated, and a year later, India.Arie picked up two Grammys. I could see a situation like that this year with Kendrick Lamar? But the rap field is a rubberstamp field, so expect Eminem and Kanye to win over Kendrick. The only way I see Eminem losing is if the voters feel that “Rap God” is too old (it’s the oldest song nominated) and the lack of a Rap Song nominated hurts it. Some voters may feel obliged to throw their votes to Kendrick after leaving home emptyhanded at the hands of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. I think giving Eminem Rap Album is good enough for him. Giving him more than that is overload, especially after the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis domination.
