At the Grammys, pretty much every music genre has had some representation in the General Field. Pop, Rap, R&B, Country, Folk, EDM, Rock, Alternative, Jazz, Blues. Hell, even Reggae has gotten some love in the GF. (Sean Paul for Best New Artist).

But Metal music has had no such luck. Perhaps because it’s a subversive genre of music. Not even relatively mainstream bands like Metallica could get in.

I could perhaps see a hot new Metal band getting into Best New Artist somewhere along the line.

Was 110% certain that Disturbed would’ve broken through with Sound of Silence if it wasn’t a live version they submitted

If an act like Halestorm (Grammy Winners already) or Lacuna Coli put out critically beloved album (Radiohead type reception), I could see that happening and the academy eating it up. Apart from that unless established rock acts start making heavier material or veteran metal someone gets in (a la Metallica) I really don’t see metal breaking through unfortunately.

But you have to consider the fact that those metal musicians/albums who get recognized in some categories at Grammys are usually, for what I know, badly considered by authentic metal listeners. For istance, Slipknot are considered a joke compared to other bands. Real metal (to be precise the term itself doesn’t mean much, since there are many types of metal) is too extreme for the Grammys, so at most we might see hard rock breaking through I suppose.

I could see a well-regarded Metallica album getting a veteran AOTY slot in a slow year. It won’t be this current album though & their last few records are further from mainstream.

You could say that Evanescence already did that, they won Best New Artis and were nominated for Album of the Year, I do not see them as metal, but I could call them a rock band with metal influences

Yes. And in fact, they are not well received between those who listen to that genre, for what I know.
