#1: Anne Hathaway – The Dark Knight Rises ( 29 % ) vs. Les Miserables ( 71 % )
#2. Bradley Cooper – American Hustle ( 62 % ) vs. TPBTP ( 38 % )
#3. Sandra Bullock- Gravity (97%) vs. The Heat (3%)
Since Sandra Bullock got such an overwhelming amount of votes for Gravity with 31 against The Heat’s 1, I figured I’ll already go into my next poll. For #4, if you had to choose between Jessica Chastain’s graceful yet stern work in The Tree of Life or her delightful yet tragic turn in The Help, which would you pick?March 17, 2015 at 5:40 am #550488
It is an understatement to say that I’m not a big fan of The Tree of Life. I pick The Help in a heartbeat, but I think her work in Take Shelter also merits some recognition.

For me easily The Help and she should have picked up another supporting nomination for A Most Violent Year. Chastian & Renee Russo were more deserving then any of the nominated supporting actresses.
What was particularly impressive about her work in A Most Violent Year is that in lesser hands it could have come across as the ‘just wife’ role, but she added layers to her performance aided by a cleverly written screenplay. Bravo work sadly overlooked by the Academy.March 17, 2015 at 6:44 am #550490
She should have actually won that year for Take Shelter.March 17, 2015 at 7:57 am #550491
“The Help,” of course. Kathryn Stockett wrote a great novel. One of the many things that adds to Jessica Chastain’s allure in this performance is that she took a well-written role from a novel and made it even greater with the performance. It was going to be a great role and performance, likely by whomever was selected. But she somehow managed to add more layers to a nearly fully layered character. I don’t know if I think Celia Foote is the most complex character because of Stockett’s writing or Chastain’s performance, but the fact that I even wonder that is a testament to Chastain.
I’ll echo the posts above. Chastain was incredible in “Take Shelter” and should have been a nominee in Lead Actress for her performance. Lead Actress was INCREDIBLY competitive and I doubt she even made the top 10 or perhaps even the top 15, considering the major awards shut out the film. Many Chastain fans haven’t seen it or heard of it (outside of this forum, where we all much more informed haha), and I think it may be her best performance (and it’s certainly the best Michael Shannon has ever been).March 17, 2015 at 8:41 am #550492
Its hard to argue against any of her performances because they all are deserving. If I go with my heart its tree of life. It was the first movie I watched of hers and fell absolutely in love with her. The beauty of that performance beats the ohers imo. I firmly believe that both her and pitt should have won the supporting oscars that year.March 17, 2015 at 11:13 am #550493
The Help.March 19, 2015 at 12:19 pm #550494
The Tree of Life.
In my opinion, The Help was a showcase for everyone BUT Jessica. The academy chose her weakest performance to recognize in a year where she was good to great in a number of films.
The degree of difficulty is rather high in a Malick film, so when an actor rises to the challenge, something special is usually produced. In this case, Jessica along with Brad and Hunter met the expectations and turned in marvelous work!March 25, 2015 at 1:00 am #550495
I don’t know what people see in her performance in The Help. I’m still confused. To me Chastain is perfect in The Tree of Life. A performance to be nominated for, worthy of a first win for a promising actress.
Take Shelter would have been a great choice too, but for all the options they chose to nominate her for The Help? Ok.
