Most of these winners are mediocre but I voted for my man Denzel. I have no idea how Crowe, Spacey, Benigni, and Hanks (Philadelphia) won over their vastly superior competition

I concur. What a meh list. I am okay with Hanks’ wins and I guess my vote comes down between Rush and Brody….I’ll give it to Rush.

Roberto Benigni gave a wonderful performance IMO…If it were a Non-Foreign Language film, I could see Robin Williams as the Lead, but of course not even earning a nomination. What Benigni did in that role was wonderful and he is at the top of my list, with Tom Hanks being a close second for Forrest Gump.

Tom Hanks for Philadelphia is the one that stands out the most to me.

I’m gonna say Brody in The Pianist. He’s followed by Hanks in Forrest Gump, Cage in Leaving Las Vegas, and Spacey in American Beauty.
