Tie between Bates and Foster (Silence of the Lambs). Followed by MacLaine, Field, Thompson, and Miss Tandy. The rest of these winners are meh to horrible.

There are some meh people here but thankfully we have some strong contenders as well. Page, Bates, Foster (Lambs), and Thompson were all masterclass performances….but I will give it to Foster by a hair.

Wow, what an uninspiring lineup… but I’d rank the women accordingly:

    1. Geraldine Page, “The Trip to Bountiful”
    2. Emma Thompson, “Howards End”
    3. Jodie Foster, “The Silence of the Lambs”
    4. Kathy Bates, “Misery”
    5. Jodie Foster, “The Accused”
    6. Jessica Tandy, “Driving Miss Daisy”
    7. Shirley MacLaine, “Terms of Endearment”
    8. Cher, “Moonstruck”
    9. Sally Field, “Places in the Heart”
    10. Marlee Matlin, “Children of a Lesser God”

I went back and forth between Kathy Bates and Jodie Foster (for The Silence of the Lambs), but decided I give it to Kathy, because it’s so rare to win for a crazy psycho villain role and Kathy Bates gave everything in Misery.

I know it’s one of the more unpopular choices around here…but I’m in love with Cher’s oscar winning performance…so there.

    1. Cher
    2. Page
    3. Thompson
    4. Foster – 1991
    5. Bates
    6. Tandy
    7. MacLaine
    8. Foster – 1988
    9. Field
    10. Matlin

I too love Cher’s win but my vote goes to Page easily.

One of the best wins ever.

How do you remove a vote? Because I voted for the wrong option.

The easiest way that I can think of is to ask Lord Snowden to go in and edit his original post.

Tough call. Had Streep won over Jodie Foster back in 1988 for A Cry in the Dark, she would easily get my vote, so I’ll vote for the next best thing: Cher in Moonstruck.
