De Niro I suppose but I’ve never been that impressed with either of them to be honest.
Obviously they are both great but been coasting for decades and even at their best I think they had peers that were superior.April 6, 2013 at 5:53 pm #540214
They both have their highs (and there are too many to list) and their lows (for Pacino it’s “Gigli”, “Jack and Jill” and “88 Minutes” and for Robert its “The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle”, “Hide and Seek”, and “New Year’s Eve” in my opinion) but I gotta go with Pacino.April 6, 2013 at 6:37 pm #540215
Both are pretty worn out in my opinion. They were godly in their glory days, but definitely not now. Though not every star can be Meryl Streep and remain perfect for all these decades.April 6, 2013 at 6:41 pm #540216
I gotta give both of them this much though: They don’t really seem to care about what critics have to say. They seem to just make the movies they want to make and don’t really care if it’s a risk (ex. “Meet The Parents”, “The Merchant of Venice”)April 6, 2013 at 9:42 pm #540217

Her preceived perfection is a lie.April 27, 2013 at 4:23 pm #540218
Both are amazing.
De Niro has been in better films (Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Awakenings, The Untouchables, Jackie Brown), Pacino has given better performances (The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, Scarface, Angels in American, Donnie Brasco, You Don’t Know Jack). So I am going with Pacino.
I left out The Godfather Part II from both lists since they both appeared in that one and it would neither hurt nor help either point.April 28, 2013 at 1:55 am #540219
They are from the same acting generation, but Its harder to compare them as one might think at first.
Pacino is more like a personality actor, De Niro is an actors actor.
I think De Niro is “deeper” and more versatile. Pacino is more a powehouse actor than De Niro.
Lets take “Heat” as a measure. Pacino could play De Niros role, but i cant imagine De Niro in Pacinos role.
But i also think, that Pacino could never had play a role like Travis BickleApril 28, 2013 at 7:10 am #540220
When looking at their careers in total they both started getting too hammy around the mid 90’s I guess and both had been on the film scene since the early 70’s. With Pacino’s great work in television over the last decade he seems to have been on a better path than DeNiro (who also just roared back with SILVER LINGINGS PLAYBOOK) … hard choice indeed.
I’ll go with DeNiro because he has more titles in my 100 favorite films list than Pacino. #39 GoodFellas & #88 Taxi Driver vs. #99 Dog Day Afternoon. Also in addition those titles above I have more DeNiro movies in my DVD collection than Pacino. 6 DeNiro titles to 2 Pacino titles. The Deer Hunter, Marvin’s Room, Mean Streets & Raging Bull – Angels In America.April 28, 2013 at 10:28 am #540221
DeNiro has been re-“coming on” of late. If I had the privilege of casting someone with the potential to take my film to another level. I’d ask Robert to star.
