Throughout the history of the Academy Award, there have been 10 people nominated for playing famous singers. Only 4 of those ten have won.

But who do you think was the best. Vote and sound off below!

I love most of these performances but Cotillard wins by a smidge!

    * What’s Love Got to Do with It was from 1993
    * Julie Andrews didn’t play a famous singer
    * Walk the Line was from 2005

Julie Andrews is my favorite, but since her character wasn’t literally a “famous singer” I voted for Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf.

Between Bassett and Cotillard. Another one of those impossible decisions.

I wouldn’t say Maria Von Trapp was as famous as the other singers mentioned here…but she and her family were successful singers at least.

Anyway from what’s here I vote Sissy Spacek.  Barbra Streisand in FUNNY GIRL would give Sissy a run for her money for sure.

Although I love some of these other performances, Like Lange’s in SWEET DREAMS…I couldn’t select an actor/actress for playing a singer and not actually singing in the film. I know some of these voices would be near impossible to replicate by anyone, especially Pasty Cline’s, but I still can’t get behind them winning an award or being selected as my favorite.
